We are thinking about taking a trip in mid October, but notice that these dates are not open for FD, is there a reason that anyone know of? Is it likely that they will open up?

it's the Epcot food and wine festival. They don't need to offer any promotions to fill rooms.

To get free dining, only your check-in date needs to fall within the offer, so October free dining is possible, just very limited. The PP is correct that the Food & Wine Festival boosts enough business that Disney does not need any special promotions to get the rooms booked.

The other option is if you have a PIN code attached to your name. You can only find this out by calling and asking. From this board, the PINs for fall cover a few extra days in October and a couple of resorts not on the general offer.

It is unlikely any more FD days will be added to October. It's a very popular month with theFood & Wine Festival, Columbus Day holiday, the Tower of Terror 10K and the Gartner IT symposium.
