Another example of Disney abandoning ship on an attraction

It was not the pictures that were offensive (except for one caption) it was the article itself. Did you actually read it? He used some foul language.

I sa this a few years ago. I have often wondered about it, but I'm not sure how you would go about verifying it was Disney. If it was, was it a first incarnation of Castaway Cay?

Just doing a quick Google search on Baker's Bay and Disney Cruise Line leads you to many sites that mention that this was a stop before hurricane Floyd and pre-Castaway Cay. Pretty interesting pictures there.

The only problem with this 'report' is that this land was never owned by Disney. It was owned by a German investor who persuaded Premier Cruise Lines to use the area as a day island for the Big Red Boat, which was licensed by Disney. It looks like because the Disney name was attached to the Big Red Boat, people assume that the boat owned by Disney, and so was the island.

Instead of googling Disney and Baker Bay, I googled Baker Bay and Big Red Boat. There were some sites that had a better explanation of the island's use. Some sites will say that it was Disney's islands, etc.

I did the BRB back in 1990, and there wasn't anything Disney that I can remember about that island.

I was on Premier Cruise Lines SS Majestic in the late 80's and we were supposed to go here to the Abacos "Treasure Cay" it was known as "Abacodabra Cruises". Alas due to rough weather we never made it.

wow that is an Old magazine! i cant believe how much cruising has changed. Those ships look SO tiny compared to todays ships. some of them look SO old too, the "BIG" red boat is ummmm.... Not so big at all. its like a 3rd of a current disney ship if that !! the one thing is VERY cool though, if you scroll down in the article, to around page 50 i think, you can see the prices of cruises at that time. Cruising is like the ONE thing in the world that might be LESS expensive now than it was then. A lot of the 7 days were starting at around $900 back then, and you can easily get a 7 day for $500 on a lot of cruises today. now if we could just pay 1989 prices for Cars and houses and we will be set !!

My memory is fuzzy about the ship. First it was 20 years ago - has it really been that long? - and I had a pretty bad reaction to the seasickness patch. I missed out on a lot!
