Have any of y'all who play EQ ever played the PS2 version without going online? (We rented it this weekend) In that version so far all we're doing is fighting, collecting things, and selling them. While I do occasionally enjoy a game like that, I can't see spending $15 a month just to play more of it.

Is there more to the online EQ world than just fighting, collecting items, and selling them?

Thanks!!

So far, I'm leaning toward Neverwinter Nights because of the DM ability. But then I look at the graphics and characters for EQ2 and want to see more of it. I wish there were a demo. :p

Thanks!!

The game is about questing. Hence the title. There's also a large social aspect of the game with guilds and RPG'ers

The social aspect is a big part of the game. DH started playing Dark Ages of Camelot when it first came out a few years ago (it's another online game, similiar to EQ) and he was in a large guild, but they were kinda like family, as odd as that sounds. When i was in the hospital for preterm labor the whole guild knew about it and always asked him questions about how I was doing, they were all concerned. When I was out of the hospital and on bedrest, I started playing and was welcomed into the guild.

Then the guild fell apart, people stopped playing and the game was never the same. We started playing it again a few months ago and gave up because it was odd not being in a guild.

Can you tell we have no life.:p

I am heavily involved in a guild. Currently an officer and the core of our guild switched servers..with strong numbers ( quite a feat to do..but TZ is a cesspool of a server)

There is SOOO much to do, I cant begin to get a decent dent in my to do list.

Yes..there are quests..some Very long ( working on my epic 1.5 now) the lvls ...the spells

But the fun of play really is all the people you meet and the things you do together with your friends online. exploring, grouping, hunting..and yes dieing.

the Massive raids..the complete wipes..the tradeskills and the instanced zones.

I truly never run out of things "to do" there are time i am tired of grinding xp or aa on my mains...my normal group isnt about and our low re rollers are on....I will go and have a blast Pl'ing them or lay waste to a low dungeon... or tradeskill the night away.

for me - eq is fun :)

As others have stated, the greatest attraction of the online games are actually playing with and getting to know other people. I remember playing these things all the way back to the days of MUDs on the old mainframe servers... Goodness, am I getting old??? Nah, that's why I love Disney!

I played Everquest Online Adventures for year and a half.. there is no 'not online' aspect to it.. I think it is only 9.95 a month.

Champions of norrath is a version of everquest where you can play online or off, but it doesnt charge a monthly fee. (not as fun)

Everquest 2 is my newest game, very entertaining to us eq junkies. This one costs 14.95 month.

The overall experience of the game is fun.. lot of questing, lot of grinding, lot of exploring, so much to see.. doing your best to get the uber gear for your toon. Raids are one of the most fun parts of the game once your toon is higher lvl, fighting the big mobs with your guild, fun fun.

If I was to recommend an eq game, I would go for EQ2 if your computer can handle it. It is so much bigger/better than the ps2 version. The ps2 version has a lot of power leveling going on which leads to players that took the easy road to the top and really cant play thier class. And honestly, I wouldnt bet on the PS2 version being around much longer although sony will deny this to the end.. but its hard to even find an eqoa cd at the gamestores anymore, no expansions planned, little to no gm support anymore, updates are few and far between..

EQ2 is brand new and has been optimized to prevent power leveling and training and the like. Seems like all the things in the ps2 version that I had wished to have changed, have been implemented in the new pc version. oh yeah.. EQ2 is ooooh so beautiful.. i cant stress that enough, just beautiful.

Beware tho.. addictive game.

EQ2 is really fun. I'm a casual gamer and DH is hardcore and we've been enjoying it

I'm a casual gamer (only get to play after my daughter goes to bed) and I've really enjoyed EQ2 so far. Seems like there's always something I can do, even if I don't find a group.

I play it with some friends in areas I used to live in. It's a nice way to play something and sorta socialize at the same time.
