I know there are a lot of active Ebay members here so I thought I would pass along the warning.
Somehow, yesterday, someone managed to change the email address attached to my sellers account. When I logged in yesterday morning I had a message from ebay confirming the change in my email address. I didn't think too much of this, due to the fact that I get so many email spoofs from people trying to get information from me, that it didn't dawn on me that it might be real. I forwarded the message to the spoof department, and thank goodness I did.
When I got home from work I had an official notice from Ebay giving me steps to take to resecure my account. Someone had indeed logged in and changed my info. I noticed that nothing had been bid on or listed, so I didn't worry too much about it. Lo and behold this morning I have an inbox full of stuff. Apparantly the theif emailed a scam through my Ebay account to many, many people. They asked people to send money overseas to thier son, and I would reimburse them with Paypal, and pay them an extra $50.00 for the trouble. I wonder how many people they got to!! On top of everything I got a warning letter from Ebay telling me that I was sending out emails to members that were against policy! Thanks ebay! So, Ebay members beware. Watch your accounts carefully, report spoofs, and don't send anyone money that you don't know!!!:earseek:

I got a weird email today from an ebayer offering to sell me disney tickets. I'm betting it was a hijacked account because the person said not to reply to that email address and listed another one. Also the ebay ID listed in the text was different from the one that was in the signature.

I reported it to ebay.

I have heard of this type of activity before. She said that someone had taken control of her account and email account and had actually been selling things from her eBay account. They took off with the money and left her to explain why the purchaser had not received their item. You are right, it is not an isolated incident, and we should all watch closely! Thank you!! :bounce:

Scary!

I know I've received several of the bogus emails that appear to be from eBay that request sensitive information. I didn't realize there was a way to forward them to eBay, though. I will definitely do that in the future.

Thanks for reminding everyone to be alert to any changes in their accounts.

yesterday from paypal. I got an email telling me that another email address had been added to my account. I checked my account and there was nothing unusual there. I reported it to paypal. I'll go check my ebay account now just to be sure!!

I think this happens alot! I had been bidding on a few sewing machines on eBay lately. The auctions for these machines ususally end around $3500 to $4000, so they're big ticket items. I'm always outbidded. But everything I place a bid, I get at least 2 emails from "sellers" offering me second chance offers or buy it now deals. They are always telling me to email some other address or wire money. At first I used to email eBay every time. Now I just delete them. It really amazes me how many people end up getting their account hijacked!:earseek:

Thanks for the heads up. I get all sorts of emails from what I think is is eBay, only to read them and find out they're spam. I started deleting them all!! Maybe I should pay closer attention in the future?

I recently changed my email addy on both eBay and Paypal (i'm bragging, we got cable in our small town LOL) and this thead just has me a little paranoid now. I think I'll check in and make sure everything is ok on both of my accounts.

Well, the saga continues, fortunately Ebay is on top of things. I've already recieved an email from someone stating that the person who emailed her has already transferred $1500 to her paypal account, and now she is supposed to transfer that money to them via western union. The only thing that I can figure is happening is that a person is stealing credit cards, and sending money from the cards to paypal and the using western union to get the cash in hand. Paypal has daily limits to protect against this so they have to enlist others with paypal accounts to get all the cash. Wow, if only these people would use their intelligence for good - pretty elaborate scheme!:sad2:
