I just returned from our vacation to WDW... During our trip, I went into Lights, Motors, Action for the first time with my Nikon D60 and 18-135mm lens... I was sitting in the front row, very excited to see the show begin... About 1 minute till the motors started rumbling, I leaned over the rail to see what was below me and guess what I saw.... My lens falling off my camera and falling to it's death!! It fell about 10 feet and landed on the mount side and cracked the glass and destroyed the plastic piece that clicks into place. Awesome!!

Luckily I had brought my 35mm 1.8 with me to take pictures of the Osborne Lights so I was able to get some pictures from the show, but not quite was I was hoping for. I guess that is always a reason to go back right...

Luckily, I have all my photo gear and electronics fully insured on a stand alone policy, so it will be covered... My wife called them while I watched the show, and they said to find one to replace it, and they will cut me a check... Those lenses are harder to find then I thought... We got home Tuesday, and last night I made a joke about wanting to upgrade my camera to the D7000 and how nice it would be to have a 18-200mm lens... I checked Amazon and found that they are on backorder until around January 2011, so that thought went as quick as it came...

My wife decided to go hide from me and call the local Shutterbug Camera store to see what they said, and apparently they had one... not anymore... Cause she went and bought it for me!! :yay: She also picked up the 18-200mm lens as a replacement for my broken 18-135... How cool is that early xmas present!!! :thumbsup2 She even got it cleared through the insurance company to do the upgrade and they would give us the replacement cost of the 18-135 to go towards the cost of the new stuff...

I am anxious to go use this wonderful camera, and we leave for another vacation in a week, so we will see what I can learn about this camera by then...

That story had everything! I laughed, I cried, I felt an emptiness for you and relief when they were going to reimburse you. Than the jaw dropped with the new presents! Congrats!!! It all started with the breaking of a lens! :lmao:

I am so sawing through the strap of my old D60..... oh wait, I don't have insurance.

Who would have thought breaking a lens could lead into such a great thing :lmao:

Congratulations on the new gear!

Thanks!

Insurance is very cheap and well worth it... It only costs me about $7 a month and that covers all my camera gear, lenses, batteries, laptop computers, and ipods... It covers everything from if it is lost or stolen, to damages, and there is no deductable...

Congrats on the new gear ... Now you will have a little time to figure out all the bells and whistles on the new toy in time to get awesome Christmas morning photos.

I can't wait!! We are making a trip to California next week for a huge family gathering... I can't wait to try it out there... I can't stop playing with it already! :rotfl2:

I just came home after an early Christmas with the in-laws... They gave me an American Express gift card!! On the way home I swung into Shutterbug, and picked myself up a Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens! It will go great with the D7000... This is the best Christmas ever!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

lucky you!

Is the camera insured under your homeowners, or do you have it insured in some other way?

That might be a really dumb question, but being a relatively new home-owner, I'm still confused by how the insurance works. I keep forgetting to insure my camera and music equipment, and a story like this makes me almost cry!

First of all what a great wife you have. Congrats on the new camera and lenses. You must be living a charmed life to be taking another vacation???

Your wife rocks! My husband would have made me wait until Chrsitmas.

Yeah, I'd like to hear where you're insured for all this stuff as well. I have individual coverage for my camera through squaretrade, but sounds like I'm not getting the best bang for my buck there.

My early Christmas present to me from me arrived a few days ago. While its not a piece of photo equipment it is an important part of the process. I got a new iMac and am now in the process of trying to get all my photos, folders and catalogs so I can access them on the new computer. I have to admit being a lifelong PC user I am just a bit iConfused but I am learning. A friend of mine just got a job with Apple and offered me her once yearly 2010 25% discount on a system. I wasn't planning on getting a new computer just yet but couldn't pass on that discount. She will be using her discount next year to upgrade her own home system so I had to do it before the end of the year. :rolleyes1 Sounded like a perfectly good excuse to me to do the upgrade.

I have what they call a "Personal Articles Policy" through State Farm. They are the only insurance company I have found that can offer a stand alone policy for electronics like this. This is seperate from my home owners... I had to bring them in the receipts and serial numbers off all the gear I want on the policy. I have approximately $4000 worth of gear insured between my camera stuff, my lenses, batteries, laptops, point and shoots, and my tripods/monopods... Like I said, it covers everything from theft, loss, damage of all types, or if they just stop functioning... There is a zero deductible to have them replaced... It surely creates piece of mind on vacations knowing that this stuff is covered, cause I could not have imagined how I would have felt dropping my lens and realizing I am out $400! It is worth looking into... It was a joy working with them to fix my problem with the lens... By the way, my bill each month for this is about $7.91!

She wanted me to have it for the big family gathering we are having next weekend, otherwise she would have made me wait..

Tel your wife I said.... :worship:

She smiled... :goodvibes

This vacation is more of a family gathering for Christmas... It is only for a few days, enough time to drive the 14 hours down and hang out for 2 days, then drive the 14 hours back...

Congrats on the D7000, Terry! You have the best wife ever. I'm not sure my wife even knows photography is a hobby of mine.

Nationwide has a similar product, but they call it an Inland Marine (IM) policy. I've had to use mine twice in the last year (once for a damaged engagement/wedding band and once last month to repair my DSLR that fell off of the tripod onto the pavement). I highly, HIGHLY recommend looking into one of these types of policies with separate coverage.

LOL :rotfl2: I am sure she has a little idea about your hobby... The D7000 is a huge improvement over my D60... It is not even in the same league...
