Another DVC AP question...

My family and I travel to Disney every year at the exact same time for a week (the first week in March). I have read about people purchasing the AP and getting two uses out of it by making their "second" trip a week earlier. In addition, many people suggest purchasing a regular ticket from UT (for the discount) and then converting it to an AP.

My questions are the following:

Since I do not have the flexibility of moving our dates forward or back a week, is there anyway I can still take advantage of the DVC AP?

Can I purchase a regular 7-day ticket from UT, use it and then on the 7th day of my "first" trip, convert it to an AP (and thus my AP would start on the day I converted it, or is it retroactive)? This way I would then be able to use the AP to cover our second trip the following year. In a sense, I would get 1 year + 7 days out of it...

Thanks,

Evan

The AP would start on the day you first used the ticket not the day you converted it. Sorry.

Unfortunately, if you have no flexibility in your travel times and they are always the same exact dates, I can't see any way that you can make it work.

As PP stated, a ticket converted to an AP has a start day of the original ticket so that wouldn't work either.

We are only able to take advantage of this because I teach and do have the flexibility to go a week earlier in the summer.

DH and I did consider switching the trip to my Winter break in February (due to the summer heat) but realized that doing this would most likely result in us never getting to do the APs again as that week doesn't flucate that much as it is always the week after President's Day.

Thanks for the replies.

Sandisw...I'm in the same boat as you, but taking the opposite approach! I teach as well, but we decided to go during my Winter break because the crowds are low, the weather is (supposed) to be good (and here in MI it stinks), and we can get cheap airfare. For now, the kids are young enough that we can take them out of school as well.

I was thinking down the road a few years that we might take your approach; go sometime in the last two weeks of August and then we can move it up a week the following year to take advantage of the DVC AP discount. The only problem is that we went last year in July and my wife said never again (due to the weather and crowds, but in late August, the crowds should not be bad). I'm assuming that you go in late August...what are your thoughts on that time of year for Disney?

My ultimate plan is to purchase a few more points (we currently have 190) so that we can also include our "normal" March trip in addition to the late August trip. That way we could get 3 trips out of the AP (Summer #1 -> Winter break -> Summer #2).

Thanks again for the replies,

Evan

We have gone to Disney several times at the end of August and the crowds are most definitely smaller (we also gone in mid June, early July (the 4th - wow was it crowded), and early August). The weather is still typical August weather, Hot, humid, with rain most afternoons, and of course it is hurricane season - but IMO it is easier to deal with when there are less people (and we have no trouble traveling like ducks - we put on our ponchos, get wet and enjoy the even smaller crowds on rainy afternoons!)
