Another dumb luggage question

Luggage tags from Disney is too pretty to use (don't want them to get damaged) so I'm going to use plain ones I have. Do you put you full information on the tags? Such as name, address, phone number, etc?

And do you do anything special to your luggage so that it'll be easier recognized from the luggage belt?

We put a name and cellphone number. That's it.

I add nothing interesting to our luggage. We know what our bags look like, and we look at the tags as we put our hands on the bag.

We mark our bags not so we can find them easier, but so they're not mistaken by someone else.

OP, I've used colored electrical tape around the handle of our plain black suitcases. I figure anyone picking up the bag should notice the tape and hopefully realize they've grabbed the wrong bag.

I too have name and cell phone number on my luggage tags but nothing else. I also have a couple strips of reflective tape on mine to make it stand out.

I put full name and cell numbers only on our luggage...also the glittery Christmas curling ribbon! On the handles. Makes ours easier to find.

I have florescent pink cotton ribbon tied on the handle of my bags. It's just a small piece and doesn't stick out more than about 2 inches. I also have luggage straps that go around the middle of the bags.

For ID tags I'm a little paranoid so I have tags that are laminated and they fold in on themselves. You have to undo and remove the tags to be able to open them up to see the information. I read an article once that said there are thieves that hang out at the airport to get a look at addresses on luggage tags to see who's away from home. One of my luggage straps has a slot for the ID info and I have a business card in there.

My email address is on my luggage tags. I have fairly usual tags, so I know our bags. I have also put very distinctive ribbon on them. I made up ribbon by using a Winnie the Pooh themed blanket binding, edged in lime green grosgrain ribbon.

Everytime I put a disney luggage tag on the outside of my bag, it's gone missing before I get my bag back. Now I just put the tag inside on the chance the bag is misplaced, we'll have something to identify it by.
More often lately, we've been trying to do carry-on only to avoid damaged bags or someone rifling through them.

I use a generic luggage tag outside and another on the inside with just my first initial, last name and cell #. Also use a bright color ribbon on the handle to help me spot the bag and keep others from grabbing it (hopefully!).

I use a metal key ring instead of a lock to secure them closed and they have always been replaced properly after a TSA search.

That doesn't make sense. Let's say you're flying to Orlando. Someone would have to be at the Orlando airport, see the tag, call someone in your hometown and let them know you're gone. Or, on your way home, someone would have to be at your home airport, they see the tag, and then hit your home when you're presumably on the way home.

I don't put my address on simply because it isn't necessary anymore - cell phone # is sufficient now! And OT a bit but always keep your luggage claim receipts, I needed them in Detroit last month when my bags made it on the flight before mine and were collected and waiting in the airline luggage room.

Well I've never had a hard time spotting our bags. So it's not something I need to do.
Again, I don't mark the bags to make them easier to spot, but to hopefully give the person mistakenly picking them up (and it's never happened to us, but that doesn't mean it won't) another clue that it's not THEIR bag.

I put my business card and hand write my cell # on it. I put another one inside my bag just in case.

I buy anything but black luggage, always easy to find.

do use cute disney tags when traveling to 'the world' and i make sure to have tag inside the bag jik it'd get knocked off, but never has.

we use zip ties to attach the tags vs the belted strap that often comes with tags.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Never thought about putting information inside the luggage. And good idea about zip ties.

I have done the same thing for years now. And we list a couple of cell numbers...just in case.

Yes, I read somewhere that eventually the airline will open the suitcase and look for identification inside if there isn't any on the outside in the event of a lost or unclaimed bag.

I've bought tags off Ebay twice ( we moved). I buy these hard plastic tags that you would have to go out of your way to break and then some. They engrave your information. I put everything on there but my social security number. We use them for everything from luggage tags to kids backpacks.

Here is a bit of information for you

When we travel to USA from Ireland ( usually Dublin ) we pre clear Customs & Immigration Before we board the aircraft.

When we check in and hand over our luggage we are given an identification number to put on our boarding card & another one

is stuck to our case & off it goes towards the plane.

We then go through security & then to the USA Pre Clearence check in .

Here we fill in a Customs form & then to the Immigration Booth ( Manned by USA TSA people )

Our Finger Prints are taken Photo of our Iris ( eyes ) taken

And then up on a Monitor Screen our Luggage ( ? ) is displayed & we are asked to say if it is our luggage.

No Idea what would happen if we said No that is not ours .

If we say yes then our holiday Visa is stamped ..... and off we go to the aircraft.

And on to USA .

NOTE before all that happens we have to BUY a 2 year travel permit Called ESTA & that costs $ 14

This is attached to your Boarding Card & Ticket.

NO ESTA No Flight to USA

AND from Mid March this year

You have to buy an eTA to enter Canada from Europe
