another disney gift card question

At the park? Yep! I've done it! Once to Deluxe and once to Signature! :thumbsup2

The first time I upgraded to Deluxe I used 1 Disney gift card (balances combined to one), 2 Visa Gift Cards, and my regular Visa. So the cast member was very patient with me.

good to know! thank you! now i know how i'll be paying for our upgrades in september! LOL...gotta start buying my disney gift cards from target with my red card (to get 5% off)!!

Wait...I don't know why that never occurred to me- you can use Disney gift cards at Disneyland? Like even for food and in shops?

You can use them at the World of Disney store and Marceline's Candy Shop in DTD!!!
So, you can use your Disney gc's in the parks, and restaurants for the most part, but only at these two stores in DTD? Is that really the case? That seems pretty limiting in DTD, so hoping that's not true! Anyone know for sure?

Disney gift cards can only be used at Disney owned properties. So in DtD, it makes sense that you could use them at Marcelines, WOD, and Vault 28. But you cannot use them at non-Disney owned properties, like Starbucks DtD or Rainforest Cafe.

DTD is a shopping mall. Being able to use Disney giftcards at nondisney shops would be like using a Victoria Secret GC at Sephora at your local mall.

You can't use them at places in DLR or DCA that don't accept credit, which isn't many places but just as a FYI. And yes, we've also upgraded 3 day passes to 5 using gift cards.

D-Street and WonderGround Gallery are also Disney owned, so I think Disney gift cards can be used there. That Anna and Elsa boutique in DtD probably also qualifies.

Within the parks, there are some places that don't accept Disney gift cards because they are owned by outside vendors. The Ghirardelli store in DCA springs to mind. I think the crystal shops also don't accept Disney gift cards. Interestingly since the inside the parks Starbucks locations are co-branded Disney and Starbucks, I have heard they accept both Starbucks and Disney gift cards. I personally have only used Starbucks gift cards there. The DtD Starbucks though does not accept Disney gift cards.

That makes sense- the Starbucks in target will take a target red card (or gift card) or Starbucks gift card. But you obviously can't use a target gift card at your neighborhood freestanding sbux

Right...I would never have expected the DtD one to take Disney cards. I thought it was neat that the inside the parks ones take both types of gift cards. I don't go to Starbucks except for when on vacation so I haven't paid attention to how the co-branded ones work. We all know the inside the parks ones are Starbucks even though that's not their name on the building, so it's nice that they still take the Starbucks cards.

In looking at third party sights such as Raise, I see where sometimes they note on the Disney gift cards they sale it cannot be exchanged for lodging or tickets as they are Disney Store gift cards.

Am I missing something ?

Disney STORE gift cards can only be used in the Disney Store. Those can't be used at the hotels or in the parks.

Always check the fine print to determine whether the gift cards are for the Disney Store only. We were eating at BB when the older couple next to us tried to pay for what was clearly a splurge meal with several gift cards. The CM came back and there was lots of discussion, which then turned to sounds of dismay. Turns out the couple was trying to pay for a triple digit bill with Disney STORE gift cards. It wasn't pretty. The couple didn't seem prepared to pay for the meal another way, and we felt so bad for them.

Since I can use the Disney gift card everywhere including the store, what is the purpose of the Disney Store gift card that has very limited usability?
