Hi all. We have free qs dining for our may 2014 trip but wonder if it is worth upgrading to table service meal. Is that the only difference or do you get an additional snack? We are staying at po fq so no table service restaurant on site I think.
Does the ts plan include any character dining?
Lastly does it cost a lot to upgrade?

It entirely depends on how you want to eat, we don't do the dining plan anymore but in your circumstance we would probably upgrade as we eat 1 TS per day which you would get. It really depends whether you want to eat TS or QS

you trade one CS for one TS.
you don't get any additional snack.
Standard DDP includes : 1CS, 1TS, 1snack (per night spent at the hotel) and the refillable mug.

no table service in the hotel, but it's a very short walk to POR where there is a Table Service Restaurant.
You can also take the complimentary boat to DTD. Or go eat everywhere on property using Disney Transportation

You can book character dining with your dining plan.
character dining are 1 TS credit, except for CRT (Cinderella's Royal Table) which costs 2 TS credits for one meal.

Lastly does it cost a lot to upgrade?

£15 per adult and per day ( = night spent at the hotel)
£2 per child and per day

I should have added that a TS meal will generate additional cost through the tip (which is part of the waiter's wage in the US) and this means 18 to 20% of the bill (even if you pay it with a TS credit)
for a TS meal this means roughly $6 or $7 per person and per TS meal.
The tip has to be paid on top of the TS credit used for the meal.

That's pretty rubbish! I thought tips value were at my discretion and if that's the case disney should include in the prepay cost.

Tips unfortunately don't work like they do here. I suppose they are technically discretionary, but they are certainly expected. Always add on 15-20% (frustrating when using DDP I know).

A tip was added onto our bill at CR last year. The food and service were both appalling and the waitress was overheard *****ing about my DH at the podium... Suffice to say I refused to pay any tip and they wouldn't remove it from the bill, they had to get a manager to do it.

So yes, tipping is most definitely expected :goodvibes

It's not really. The serving staff get taxed on tips whether they get them or not. It is culturally normal in the US and nothing specific to do with Disney it applies everywhere you eat out. If service is poor seek a manager. It certainly adds quite a bit of money to a trip but that needs to be part of your budget.

It is also normal to tip a $ per drink, $2 for a cocktail. Also a $ per bag that you are helped with by bell services.
