another cub scout question

We went to our first "pack" meeting Monday (DS is tiger cub age). This is a large pack. Pack meetings are every 3rd Monday and den meetings every other Tuesday--at 6PM. They said not to be afraid to switch to another pack if there was a conflict, but I didn't want to--DS doesn't know many kids from the other elementary schools.
If den meetings were at 7 that would be OK, but not 6--DS has soccer 6 weeks each season and his coach practices at that same time. Yes, he'll have the same coach in spring--I'm the commissioner for his age group and I put him on this team because I like the coach. So he would be missing at least one den meeting and 2 practices each season. AND, the pack meetings are at 7PM Mondays--DD#2 finishes dance at 7 and DD#1 starts at 8! I already had to leave the pack meeting 20 minutes early.
BUT, what I didn't think of, is the local parochial school! I found out several of DS's friends are going tonight to check out the pack there--THURSDAY night is scout night, one night we actually have open! You don't have to be catholic to go either! And it's at 7, so dinner is a lot easier!
DH is worried because one of the active members of the other pack is our neighbor and he doesn't want to hurt his feelings--but he is also considering a job that would mean some evening work. That would mean I would have to sometimes be DS's adult partner--and Thursday works Much better for me.
Anyone have a scout who is NOT at his home school?

Welcome to the wonderful world of schedule organizing! It has been a long time since I went through it, but my oldest son was in a church sponsored Cub Scout pack. He knew some of the other kids, and he liked the activities better than the school sponsored pack. It wasn't necessary to belong to the sponsoring church. By the time my 2nd son was old enough, he chose to join the school pack. Both boys enjoyed cub scouting although they didn't go on to Boy Scouts. And I even became a den mother for a year. What an experience!

We have decided to switch. It works so much better with our schedule. I did notice that the parochial school pack said they made a LOT more on popcorn last year.
The tigers will split into dens on Sunday. I just hope they let the 5 kids from our school stay in the same den--it would defeat the whole purpose if DS was in a den with kids from a different school!

When my son crossed over from Cub to Boy Scouts - we opted to drive 12 miles one way to a different Troop because we were more impressed with their program. One of my friend's drives her sons over 25 miles one way to the same Troop.

This is actually very common - Scouts are spread out everywhere.

If Scouting works for your family instead of causing conflict and stress, your more likely to stay involved. I would rather a Scout move to a different Unit than lose that Scout in the program. Most volunteers for BSA feel the same way. I am glad you switched.
