Another couple of AT/SW Credit to RR questions

Okay, so I just transferred 2 expiring points from AT to SW.

Q1) Can I transfer points back to AT? If so, when?

From what I can tell a O/W flight from DTW to MCO, costs "less" in SW RR than in AT Credits. (6540 RR vs. 8 Credits, 300 RR = .25 Credits)

Q2) Am I interpreting the conversions wrong?

TIA

You can convert 1200 RR points to 1 A+ credit. It will then have an expiration date though whereas points don't. IIRC, it will expire in 1 year.
I also think you cannot convert it back to RR points. If you transfer an A+ credit back to RR it will become the old-style RR credits which it takes 16 credits to get an award. (You can't book a one way with 8 RR credits like you could with AT. You must get the full 16 credits to get an award.)

You can supplement your RR credits with RR points to reach an award. For example. I had 1 A+ credit. My dh and 2 kids each had 2 A+ credits so all together we had 7 A+ credits. You can pay a fee to give credits to another A+ member so for $19 per credit, I could move dh's & kids A+ credits to my A+ account. I then had 7 A+ credits. I transferred them to my SWA RR account. I needed 9 more RR credits to get to 16 or I could apply points 1200 RR points = 1 RR credit. So for 10800 (1200 x 9) I could get a Standard Award with SWA. These are good & bad. Good for more expensive flights say, Philly to San Fran. Since a standard award can be used for any SWA flight, it's a bargain to use them on a flight that would cost a LOT of points. OTOH, availability is limited so they're harder to use.

Sorry if this takes you off in the wrong direction but if you would rather be taking the AT flight, you can definitely transfer the RR credit back to AT (almost immediately, as soon as it shows in your account) but it will keep the same exp date it originally had. You can also transfer RR points to A+ credits at the rate of 1200 points per credit so you can get enough A+ credits to earn an award. I would check for award availability before doing this.

Ooops. I think I misunderstood your question and didn't see where you got your numbers from at first.

Is 6540 the amount of RR points you need to fly? If so, that's way cheaper than converting anything from RR to A+.

If you're just trying to save your A+ credits from dying, you can either pay the fee to extend the expiration date or transfer them to RR (exp stays the same) but it's only worthwhile to do this if you have enough RR points to get to 16 credits with 1200 RR points = 1 RR credit.
So basically you can turn points into credits but can't turn credits into points.
