It's definitely a movie that grows on you. I liked it when I first saw it. Now I love it.

I really like this movie.

The Kiera Knightley storyline always made me a bit sad. I always felt like she should have been with whatshisname rather than her husband. I REALLY enjoyed his character development. He starts out acting like a buttmunch who hates his best friends wife and you think you're going to hate him and then you find out he is in love with his best friends wife and was simply trying to protect himself. I don't know, in many ways that could come across as so horrible but something about the way it was written made me love that part.

Collin was just adorably ridiculous. I mean, he wasn't wrong. Who among us (American women that is) don't find a foreign accent to be exotic and interesting?

The Snape/Trelawney story line was heartbreaking. I do wish they had given us a little bit more closure there as to how it all turned out.

I have to say Hugh Grant and the housekeeper was adorable. I found that part really cute.

It's in my top 10 movies ever made, haha. I watch it all the time throughout the year. It never gets old.

I've seen it, don't remember it very well. Didn't hate it...just don't remember.

This is me. It came up in conversation last year and I said I'd never seen it. DH laughed and informed me that we watched this film, with my mother and sister one year at Christmas. Clearly, it was not a memorable film for me.

I'm intrigued by the strong opinions of it though, I may need to watch it again this year and see if it sticks in my head this time :p

Started reading this thread (first and last page) before I realized it was old, so if I "liked" your year-old post out of the blue, that's why!

Anyway, I voted "other" because I've never "actually" seen it, but was curious because I'd heard it mentioned on another thread.
haha I did the same thing

Just saw this thread come up in my alerts....still love this movie at Christmas and can't wait to watch it!!! It still makes me chuckle to go through the comments where people think the body stand in are porn stars:rotfl:

I was about to comment on that then realized the thread was a year old lol.

I liked this movie, but I don't think of it as a Christmas movie. I'll never understand why people think of something as a "Christmas movie" just because it is set around Christmas Movies that are about Santa, Jesus, common holiday characters (Frosty, Grinch, Scrooge, etc) are, to me, Christmas movies. Just because Christmas happens during the movie doesn't make it a Christmas movie to me.

Mostly, I think of this as a "chick-flick" and I DEFINITELY wouldn't be letting my middle-schooler watch it!

Well, there's a Christmas pageant, a Christmas party, they go Christmas shopping, and a singer is promoting his Christmas song throughout the movie. The whole theme of the movie revolves around love, forgiveness, second chances, being with the ones you love at Christmas.......It's a Christmas movie.

I don't think I'd call this one a Zombie. A year old, sure, but relevant again due to the time of year.

I like this film, and it is one of a few I'll watch around December. (I try avoid Christmas films with Father Christmas in, so that's a lot gone!)

I saw this film when it was first released in the cinema. I was 18, I was on my first date, it was a couple of weeks until Christmas and I had my first kiss at the end of the film

I enjoy the different story lines, I enjoy Alan Rickman, I enjoy the depiction of different forms of love, I find the awkward meeting between Martin Freeman and Joanna Page hilarious... but I think that's my very British sense of humour.

Seeing this film in the cinema was the only time I've ever experienced people applauding during a film- the scene where the PM makes his defient speech to the President really struck a chord over here in the UK (saying things many Brits wanted saying at the time).

I do think it's a very British film, intended first and foremost for a very British audience. We don't have many Christmas films of our own (although Martin Freeman seems to feature in the ones we have... "Nativity!" anyone? Best Christmas film ever!) It's definitely my thing, but I can appreciate it's not for everyone!

Just wanted to say I loved this movie, watched it last night! Thanks for the heads up. I was trying to figure out how I missed it, seeing as it's got some of my favorite actors in it, and my DH reminded me that our twins were about six years old when it came out, so that explained it! haha

So BTTT for another Christmas. Do you love "Love Actually"? Do you even consider it a Christmas movie? What say you?

DW and I are cuddling up in front of the fire & watching it tonight.

I think we've shown we can deal with hot-button, pressing issues of Christmas, so I'm going out on a limb and raising another touchy subject:

Love Actually. Some (led by DW) think it's cute and sweet and romantic. Others think it's dreck and probably not a real Christmas movie, anyway.

Here's a good article that discusses the pros & cons.

So what say you? Do you like Love Actually? Do you hate Love Actually? Do you have another thought about it?

I really can't say. I've never been able to see it. You see, my TV is programmed to auto change the channel and subsequently block said channel if anything with Hugh Grant in it is on.

Love Actually is my favorite movie of all time, any time of year. But I do have a little extra fun watching it at Christmas :).

I love the film, and I agree, it's VERY British. I was raised in an immigrant household, and though I'm American, grew up with those kind of jokes (and fruitcake -- my whole family loves fruitcake!). Watching it reminds me of being a kid again (well, except for the body-double scenes, I wouldn't have watched those as a kid.)

My favorite scene is the proposal to Aurelia. My DH loves the Olivia Olson version of "All I want for Christmas".

This is a very fun clip of a deleted bit that was planned for the film and not used; apparently Thomas Brodie-Sangster's run through Heathrow was originally planned to be a bit flashier:
