Lately things have been heavy around our household particularly with my 14 yo DD. Usual teenage stuff and school stuff but also some things that are more serious. Prompting many discussions on the way to school about such topics like drugs, cutting, suicide, world events etc. Let me add, she's a great kid and seems to be going in the right direction, these are just events coming up in her world.

Well this morning, very rainy, we were on our way to school when she said:

"Mom, remember that body spray I bought at the Contemporary? Well I used it this morning and the smell of it reminded me of the afternoon we all just stayed in the villa at BLT and watched movies and had a nap. It was really raining hard that afternoon and we decided to just stay in.....That was the best day, I'll always remember that day."

I didn't know what to say, it just came out of the blue and it put me in such a good mood. For her and for me. We arrived at the school just as she finished, she kissed me goodbye and ran off inside.

You just never know what your kids are getting out of these vacations. I guess we ARE building that bank of memories for them. And giving them a little escape from the real world sometimes too.

Just thought I'd share.

Oh my goodness you just gave me the chills (in a good way)! Thanks for sharing. I have 2 DDs 10 & 13 so I can relate. They are such good kids and I hope they always stay that way. The 4 of us together at Disney every year is priceless. I hope as they grow older and meet life's challenges they have our Disney memories to keep them strong! :thumbsup2

And now I am going to have to remember during our next trip to the Contemporary to look for body spray! What is it called?

Wow, I'm glad for you and her that you have that memory!

A great story. Thank You! It's amazing how Disney vacations affect your children. My children are now telling me about their times at Disney since they have children of their own and I did'nt realize till now on how much those trips meant to them

Same here...I got chills. Because it is so great when you can make these kinds of memories with your kids, and the reason so many people keep returning to Disney to make them!

I don't know what the name of the body spray is... but now this is a memory I'll always have. Glad I could share something with those that understand.:goodvibes

Hi bluenosemickey,
That is a fantastic story and thanks so much for sharing. :goodvibes You are creating wonderful memories for your family. Enjoy! :thumbsup2

You brought a tear to my eye! Life goes by so fast, and it is so sweet to hear your kids' memories. Thanks for sharing!

My Mom and Dad took me to Disney when I was 13 there was only the MK back then we never had the chance to go back with my Dad as he died 5 years later. I remember going on Pirates over and over we now own DVC and think of my Dad every trip.

Thank you, it's lovely that such a simple day left her with such a great memory.

As the mother of a 14 year old boy I understand you concerns. Our children live in a world where speed is the ultimate goal; better, faster, immediate technology which is in fact robbing them of some of their youth, but we have little choice as parents, but to help them keep up! The internet also comes with it's pros & cons, though a valuable tool it can also make the life of a teenager miserable, there's no do-over button! It's a much different experience growing up than what we had.

"Our" timeshare as my son refers to it, has also been a wonderful addition to our family!

Thanks Again!

Our kids, now in their late teens, have rich Disney memories as well. Beautiful story.

This statement is so true and you couldn't be more right Beaslyboo. I am the mother of a 14 year old daughter graduating 8th grade and moving on to HS next year. I also have a 17 year old (18 in October) son who will be a senior next year, preparing for college. We are proud of him as he has grown into a wonderful young man with only a few "bumps" along the way. Now we are getting ready to do HS again with our daughter and it is even scary I think with a girl.

I love your story OP and I thank you for sharing. No matter how much they may complain, family time is one of the most important things we can give to our children.

OP thanks for sharing!! We too have gone through a tough year with our 13 yr old dd. I hope this trip to WDW goes well, crossing my fingers!! I'm just glad we're not alone.

Wow! What a sensitive, thoughtful girl! OP, you must be so proud. In case I ever need a reminder that WDW should NOT be just commando park hopping, this story should help me get my thinking straight!
