Another Chicago thread. Help with transportation questions, and general advice.

Rainforest Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, and Gino' s East are also very close.

We have stayed multiple times at the ES on State, and we always walk over to Gino's and at least stop to shop, if not eat at the Hard Rock also on each trip. We love that hotel.

I'm going to Chicago later then month for a conference.

If you go to the CTA website you can preorder passes for the public transportation system. A seven day pass is 28.00 for adults and you get unlimited rides on any bus/train (L and metra). It will not cover the suburbs so if you need to go there you have to get a CTA/PACE pass which was 33.00 for 7 days. Bus trips are 2.00 to 2.25 and train is 4.00 for every ride so the pass is definitely the way to go.

This is way better than digging for exact change, or having to deal with transfers. The trains/buses go EVERYWHERE. The site even has a google route option where you can put in destination and it tells you step by step where to go or transfer.

Very cool.

It takes 10 business days to get them so you may not be able to order them but you can also pick them up at the auto vending in the stations.

That's the catch; often during summer high season the major transit stations run out of the visitor passes, and then you end up paying cash to get to a CVS to buy one. Preordering is definitely the way to go.

Also, for anyone reading this who is thinking about making a last-minute trip to visit downtown Chicago on the weekend of June 28th; don't do it. The city will be overrun with about 30,000 librarians, and we will be hogging all of the hotel rooms, theatre tickets, and good restaurants from the Loop to the Mile, LOL. ;)

Hey now!!!!

I resemble that remark.

I'm going a few days earlier, as long as I am being sent I might as well take a day or two to sightsee, but yes the entire city of Chicago is about to get SHUSHED. LOL

Maybe I"ll wear my LGMH.
