Do you pay taxes and fees if you sign up for a prepaid phone.

I am currently with verizon with my parents and paying $12 for taxes and fees. So I am trying to find a cheaper alternative. We don't text or go online. We just want phone for emergencies. combined we only use about 60 minutes a month.

Taxes would be included in the rate for prepaid (you always pay them, even if you don't see them).

It sounds like you should get a T-Mobile pay-as-you-go plan, load up $100, and that should last you a year.

It depends on the company. Some fold the taxes into to the price and some do not. If you have one you can pay with a "fill up card" that can be bought off the web then you can beat the taxes by being able to just add minutes. I use boost mobile and they ended all online card sales so you can only pay though their website or on the phone and you do have to pay taxes.

I agree with this. I pay $100 a year for my AT&T phone and it's plenty enough for me.

It was time to buy another year card for my tracfone and I found a phone (LG 480G) AND 1400 minutes on qvc for $20 cheaper than I would have paid for 1200 minutes at the store. It ended up being $80 for a phone and enough minutes to last me a year.

I think Tracfone is in the cards at the price you pay.

I know AT&T GoPhone, if you buy the card, it it wrapped up in the card. If you go to the store, you can put the same amount on and the taxes will be deducted from your AT&T account. I upload to the account on the web. When I upload $10, it costs me an extra $1.60 for taxes.

I have a TMobile prepaid phone. I only make calls and text. I paid around $70 almost 3 years ago for the phone. I refill once a year for $100 which gives me 1015 minutes for the year(texts are 20 cents) and I never use all the minutes from the previous year and those are rolled to the next year.

When I refilled in Novermber on line I was charged tax, I think it was MA sales tax but can't say for sure. Even with tax my cell phone expense for the year is under $110.
