I have a female cat who is just right at a year old. She hasn't been spayed, and she is usually a very quiet cat. Yesterday she started being very vocal and she is just walking around the house meowing everywhere!!! I am wondering if she is going into heat and that is why she is doing it. She is also extra affectionate to me. The meowing was cute at first, but as much as I love my cat, it's getting annoying. Can anyone clue me in to what's going on?

She is in heat...pretty soon you are going to hear the males trying to get to her....dont let her out!

Definitely in heat. She is calling for a "mate". This will go on and on and on in a cycle 1 week on 1 week off, until one of two things happens. She gets pregnant or spayed. Do yourself a favor and call your vet and make her an appointment.
Sometimes they begin spraying innappropriately around the house if you allow it to go on- out of frustration our vet said. We made this mistake long ago with a female cat we took in as a stray. She was kind of old when we got her. She was sweet and affectionate and a pleasant pet to have around But when she would cycle like that she decided that the fireplaces in our home were her new littlerboxes! The urine would soak down into the brick hearth. Impossible to clean! Whenever we lit a fire the whole house would smell like cat-pee. It was terrible. We could not break her of that habit once it started. And no, she did not have a urinary tract infection. We had her to the vets a million times about it. We loved her dearly but were frankly relieved when she passed away of old age. We knew that we gave her a safe and happy life in her last years but it was not without a price.

Yep. In heat. We have a goofy stray female cat that comes to our window every night and cries for my boy cat to come out and "play". Only problem is - he's fixed. ;) You would think they could sniff out the good ones or something.

Run, to the vet. Once our cat started it seemed like she never stopped. Have her spayed and you'll rest easy. I used to wake up in the middle of the night thinking there was a baby in the house-she sounded like an infant crying made me nuts.

Have her spayed as fast as you can! Our cat has these cycles where she is fine for months on end then she is in heat 1 week, 3 or 4 days of silence then it starts again! She is going to be spayed in the next week....before it starts again.

She also sarted spraying...but she decided the furniture would be a good place. Let me tell you it is very hard to get that smell out! Natures Miracle for cats seemed to do the trick.

Duct tape will stop the noise.

I'm kidding! Yeah, time to get her fixed. It is almost time for me to get my puppy fixed. Then last thing I need is a 80lb Dane marking her territory in the house. Since she is still a puppy, I am going to let her go through one cycle.

Yup, sounds like heat to me. Time (actually past time) to get her spayed.

Oh man can you imagine if we had our cats in heat???

Just a suggestion, since cats don't usually meow in heat. (They make a different, albeit just as annoying crying/purring sound). Do you have another cat, and does your cat spend a lot of time alone all day, while everyone is at work, school, etc?

I say this because cats are very social and suffer from depression if they don't have other cats or people to interact with. So, while getting your cat spayed is always a good idea, there may be more to it than that.

This is what my cats did whenever one of their playmates passed away or they were left alone.

Sounds like she's in heat to me. Our female cat went into heat and made this god-awful meow. She also crouched real low to the ground and backed her butt into everything

OH YEAH--before we got our cat spayed, my parents came over for a visit. My Dad remarked at how cool it was that the cat loved the dog so much, until I had to point out the she was actually trying to "LOVE" the dog (or at least get the dog to "LOVE" her)

Quite embarrassing. She let all the table let "have it" quite often as well.

My itty bitty kitty was about 6 months old when I had her spayed, so she was never in heat (that I know of).... Now, our roommate has a kitty who will be a year old in July. Koda is an indoor kitty, but when should she be spayed?? is it too late?

No, either my husband or me is usually home. We have a small dog in the house that she spends time with too, so she is never alone.
I did notice today that she is rubbing up against my dog. My dog doesn't seem to care, but she is really laying it on him.:p

It would probably be a good idea to have your cat spayed asap.
