We are going to be in Carlsbad (just an hour south of DL) next month and I told DH we could just run up to Anaheim to do the Trick or Treat party and get a quick Disney fix. He thought I was crazy to even think that I could set foot on Disney property and not go into DL at all!

I told him I could do it. That we would spend the day shopping at DTD, eat at Whitewater snacks, the kids could pin trade also in DTD and then we'd do the TOT party that night. He thought it was a long ways to go just for the 4 hour party. Plus we'd need a night there to crash after the party.

A few weeks go by and I show him my plans of what we'll do in Carlsbad. He says he'd still like to go to the TOT party but we would also need to go into DL. So make it 2 nights in Anaheim, a 1 day DL pass and the TOT party tickets!! :cool1: We even cut out a night in Carlsbad to be able to do this!

First we weren't even considering going, then we thought we might do the TOT party, and now it's 2 nights there, tickets and the TOT party!!! Whohoo!!!

I know dh has been missing DL, just afraid to admit it! :rolleyes1

Somehow we'll never be able to go to California without working in a quick DL trip! It happens every time, I tell ya!

Sounds like a good trip to me :goodvibes

That snowball effect is dangerous - I went last year for a couple of days thinking I'd probably never go back because it's so far away and I happened to be in Seattle (how could I resist).

Upon my return I got snowballed and booked my Christmas trip not too many months later :lmao:

Sounds like he really WAS missing it! That's really cute. :goodvibes

Yeah, it drives my friends/family nuts...I'm from the Bay Area, but I can't just visit there, which means I have to cut my "old home" visits short. Which means, in reality, I haven't taken any "old home" trips other than a big road trip for my HS reunion...I just fly right over the Bay Area on down to Anaheim.

What can I say? They all want to sit around and drink and laugh about things I've forgotten...DLR is so much more fun than that!

Our spring break trip was supposd to be 3 days in San Diego. Then we added 3 days at Disneyland. Well, it is just a couple hours N after all. lol Then the kid wanted a day at Universal too.

So we changed the plan. We cut SD altogether, 3 days at DLR, 1 day split between Universal & the beach with dinner in DTD.

Now she's also visiting Six Flags with friends in January. I'm hoping that means I won't have to go to Universal... I mean, I can save $100 by not having to buy tickets to Universal. lol I'd much rather spend that 4th day in DL anyway. lol

Yea, I totally get the snowball effect. lol

I know you'll have a great time!

Sounds like a complete Winner!!

Me I love the DL snowball effect it gets me every time.......its the only way I get a nice snowball in my face here in sunny and way too warm for snow central California!!! I tell you its the best kind of snowball there is and if this is my version of a snowball fight well then bring it on!!!!

Have a blast!

I love the Disney snowball. We've been hit hard by it. It makes me feel less silly to hear that there are others that have it hit them. In fact we are really good at making snowmen (we've progressed), now.

We went to DLR last Dec. and I toyed with the idea of AP's, but didn't think we could afford them/didn't want to spend the extra money.

We decided to go again last May and we kicked ourselves for NOT getting the Costco AP's, so we decided to spring for them, since we knew we would be going again at least once more in the year.

Bought the Costco AP's, used them in May. (4 day trip) DH turned 50 in July, so I decided to take him to DLR for his birthday - just the 2 of us. (4 day trip)

Planned another trip for Sept. but worried about the crowds during D23 and HM Anniversary, so we pushed our trip out until Nov. 1-7. (6 day trip) Which will make 3 trips for DH and me and 2 trips for our family.

NOW, I am considering going during my kid's spring break in April - which is the week after Easter, even though it will be crowded. (possible 6 day trip) Our AP's expire the end of May.

That would make 3 trips for our kids and 4 for DH and me. I totally get the Disney snowball - we are pros!

Plus, if you include the Dec. trip when we didn't have AP's it would bring our total to 4 and 5 trips. Woot Woot!

You sound like us. This was supposed the a be a trip to San Diego. Now we're splitting the stay b/w Anaheim and San Diego. And my mom has been talking a long tim about going to Florida in the winter but doesn't want to go alone so I'm thinking maybe February we could hit The World ;)

Uh huh. I am seriously considering AP's when we go in March. If nothing else, it'll save me money when we go the following March. lol I can totally see myself trying to fit in a trip or two between the two trips though. My birthday is on a Friday next year after all. lol Both of ours are for that matter.

Not only do you have to worry about the Disney Snowball Effect (which states your trip starts out small and gets bigger and longer and you must buy more things to prepare for it), but you also have to watch out for the Disneyland Vortex! :lmao: The closer you get to DLR, the stronger the pull towards DLR. This means you can't visit anywhere in SoCal without visiting DLR. It just sucks you in; you can try to pull away, but you can't. I've been wanting to visit the San Diego Zoo for a long time, but I can't. :confused3 The pull of the Disneyland Vortex is too strong for me.

I have become a Disney scientist. I have discovered that the normal laws of nature just don't apply at Disneyland. :rotfl:

Wait, is THIS what your tag refers to? Or do they have "snow" at DL during Christmas time?

Yes, this is what my tag refers to. I am, in fact, the discoverer of the Disneyland Snowball Effect. :rotfl: I think we all knew it was there but I put a label on it. Here is the thread I started when I first discovered it.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1883560&highlight=snowball+effect

They do have "snow" at DL during Christmas, but it is really soap bubble and not good for making snow balls out of. :rotfl: It is pretty though.

ETA: I just noticed that the thread this links to has "snowball" in red because that was the word I used to search for the thread!
