Another BWV Waitlist Question

What would you do?

  • Stay on the Waitlist, book at OKW at the seven month mark (same point total) and hope for the best?

  • Bite the bullet and use the extra points for a Preferred Garden View?

  • Find a good divorce lawyer?

  • Go into hiding?

We are headed to WDW in early October after a Disney Cruise for a special birthday. princess: <---- my DW

Being owners at BWV I was going to get my reservation for a standard view studio in right on the 11 month eligibility day, but forgot until four days later and had to waitlist it. I know.... I blew it. :furious: <---- my DW again!

We are now waitlisted for a Standard View Studio for October 6th - 12th. My question is, do I have any chance it will come through? I know there is a run event for October 4&5.

I could book a Preferred Garden View but I would need to use borrowed points and if my waitlist came through, I would have to use the points before the end of November or lose them. But my DW really, really wants to stay at BWV.

So what do you think I should do?

All advice is appreciated. :flower3:

Are you using banked pts now? What pts are you using for the standard studio? what's your UY?
I would book the PV , getting a standard view studio at BWV for OCT (6 nts, don't see that happening)

Do you mean you need to borrow pts (not bank pts)?

My bad..... I would need to borrow points.... not many, but I'm cheap.

We have a December use year. I think it's only like 24 points but that is a couple nights for future use.

Your stay overlaps with Columbus Day weekend so that decreases your odds. If she really, really wants BWV, book the Preferred View. If your WL comes through by your banking deadline make sure MS has used the borrowed points in that reservation and bank any current UY points that are freed up. If your WL hasn't come through by your banking deadline, drop the WL unless you have a plan to use any freed up points before the end of your UY.

Regarding the standard view becoming available: it could happen. I currently have a BLT standard view unit booked for my planned October 2014 trip. When 7 months hits, I am going to be shopping around for other resort options (we might want to change things up a little this trip). That's one reason a standard view could become available at 7 months.

OK so I had the week from Christmas - New Year's waitlisted and it came through at the 1mo mark. Unfortunately that was the year DD was born on Christmas Eve so we had cancelled our res, but apparently they did not think to cancel the waitlist LOL!

I'd say to borrow the points and book the pool/garden view and waitlist the standard. If the waitlist comes thru then it should free up current UY points and you can bank them.

If it doesn't come thru at least you still have a wife to go on a slightly shortened trip next year. ::yes::

Thank you all for the great advice. I'm trying hard NOT to make another mistake. ;)

Let me ask you this and see if I am making sense....... :confused3

I have a December use year..... 25 points left for 2013, and 100 points, 2014.

Would it solve my problem to bank the 25, 2013 points now, book the Preferred view Studio borrowing 92, 2014 points and stay on the wait list?

If the wait list comes through they would return 24, 2014 points back to 2014 and would leave me with 49 points for 2014.

Have I go this right? Thanks in advance!

The only time I've ever waitlisted something, the system automatically deducted my points and made the reservation, then sent me an email saying it was all done. My question would be *can* you be sure that the original PV reservation will be cancelled and those points returned to 2014 before the waitlist is filled (effectively borrowing from 2014 for that reservation)? Because if my math is correct, you don't have enough points to have two reservations at the same time -- even though you want the first (PV) to be cancelled and those point reused, is it a certainty that the system will work that way?

Unless the computer system is more robust than I would expect, it sounds like you'd need MS to get involved and cancel the old (PV) reservation to free up the points prior to attempting to make the second (SV) reservation. I'm just not up-to-date on if that is how the waitlist system works, or if the potential is there that the waitlist will come through, the computer will say "oh, not enough points available *right now* so the waitlist can't be filled" and then you discover that, by the time you contact MS for help, that SV is no longer available.

No, they will not return the 24 2014 points back to that UY. You cannot un-borrow points after they have been borrowed.

You would be better off using the current points and borrow enough to get the preferred view and waitlist. But cancel the waitlist and keep the preferred view before you hit July 31. If you go to Aug 1, you won't be able to bank any 2013 points that get returned if the waitlist comes through.

I say book the Preferred View and drop the Standard View waitlist. (In other words, get over your "cheapness" on this one. Use the extra points and consider it a lesson about booking on time, LOL). :teeth:

Remember, your wife will be upset if you don't get to stay at the BWV (and it's your fault for forgetting to book on time). A few extra points will be a small price to pay for your sweetheart's happiness.

Waitlist the Boardwalk View and maybe you will get lucky. Wouldn't your wife love that? Keep it to yourself and if the waitlist works, won't that be a nice surprise?

Good luck!

Staying where you want is huge even if it means using a few extra points to make it happen. Once you are there enjoying your stay, you'll be glad you used the extra points. Good luck!

Spoken like a true wife, CarolMN! :flower3:

:thanks: everyone for your advice once again...... I have booked the Preferred Garden and Pool View :headache:

I hope I have learned a lesson.... :rolleyes1 probably not...... can't teach old dog a new trick. :dogdance:

Another option might be to call back at your 7month mark on the nose and see if you can use one time use points and then bank this years into next year since it will be before the banking window?

You cannot apply OTU points retroactively to an existing reservation and you cannot purchase OTU points if you have enough of your own points in the same UY as the reservation to pay for it. So to do this, the OP would have to cancel the existing reservation, bank enough current UY points so that he was now short on points for the room, then call MS to try to rebook the room with the remaining points plus OTU points. During those minutes he is without a reservation, he risks losing out on BWV completely (and he's in enough trouble already!)

I guess I would just aim for a single night either my first or last night (right now all of his points are tied up so he would meet the criteria), use the OTU points for it as a new reservation, then after that transaction is done, modify my current reservation to release a day and current year (not borrowed points). And then merge the two reservations together again...and then bank my points to next year that free'd up.

You have to decide on the 'cheep' scale whether you would rather use cash or points since your new view might be over your planned allocation but I think it's an option...
