Another Bison Attack

The amusing part of the video was the guy running up, reaching for his pistol. He's lucky the bison left before he got there.

Saw an article this week about a rise in cow attacks in the Alps. Sounds funny, but people have been killed and seriously injured by cows while hiking. Especially people hiking with dogs seem to set off the cows' protective instincts. It was interesting.

Is that an "attack?" Or is it a good Dad repelling an intruder perceived as a threat to a calf?
Unlikely. Bison don't mate for life. Males hang around different herds.

More than likely it's because one bison was startled. They have pretty poor eyesight, but one a "threat" comes into view they can go crazy trying to take out the threat. I've seen the various Yellowstone videos including someone who thought it would be funny sneaking up around a bison behind a small tree, until it saw the guy and tossed him.

They're also massively unpredictable. I've heard of people who managed to place a child on a bison to have a picture taken and nothing bad happened. It's kind of weird how that works sometimes.

On GMA this morning, they said it was a mom protecting her calf.
Possibly. From the video, you can't actually see which adult bison went after her. Whoever took the video apparently stopped filming and then resumed when the attack occurred.
