Another Banking Pts Question

Thank you to all who answered my previous post re: banking and borrowing. Still do not quite get it - but I will !

Ok, my scenario re banking points: Say my use yr is April and I am getting 200 pts. I decide by the end of Sept 2004 to bank all of these points until next year - 2005. I think I understand that after April 1,2005 I will then have 400 points.

Let's say in in October 2004, again 2004, that I decide I want to book a 2 bd room at my home resort for our April 2005 vacation. Even though I have not earned by April 2005 points yet, and my April 2004 points have been banked - can I still make a reservation? Let's say I would be needing a total of 375 pts total for this room type.

For the points that I banked in Sept 2004, does that mean I cannot use them now until at least April 1, 2005. I suppose I just asked this above.

Yes. The easiest way to look at this (at least for me), is to look at how many points you will have available at the time you go to use the reservation. In your scenario, you will have 400 points available in April of 2005, so you can book your reservation, and have 25 points left over. When booking your reservation, be sure that they use the points that are banked first, so that you can still bank the remaining 25 points into 2006 if you need to.

Yep, your points come out of the appropriate use year. It doesn't have anything to do with the date you call, but the date you travel.

Reservations are made with the points that will be available at the time of the stay. So yes, you could book that reservation as early as May, 2004 for your home resort or August 2004 for any other resort.

I forgot to answer this part of your question! The answer is yes. But... you could borrow your 2005 points and use them during your 2004 UY. Just remember, that once you borrow or bank points, they can't go back to their original UY.

We had to do this once. We had banked 120 points, and then decided to book a last minute trip. We simply borrowed the 60 points we needed for our trip from the next UY, and it all worked out in the long run. I was happy that we did this, rather than risk losing the points.
