Another Banking/Holding Question

Hello,
I have some questions understanding when/if I should bank and what happens to held points.

I have 150 points. My use year is December.
2014:
Vacation Points Remaining: 87
Vacation Points Available to Bank: 81
Points in Holding: 6 (I had to shift my vacation up a week last January because the blizzards in New England cancelled my flights out of Boston. I didn't know I was going to have to change my dates until my original check-in date.)

2015+:
I have all 150 points for each year going forward.


My next vacation is going to be December 2015. I might check in on November 30th. Should I bank my 2014 points? Am I going to lose my 6 points in holding? I have some time.... my banking window doesn't close until July and I should have my reservations and flights booked by late May. I'm just trying to understand when/if I should bank and what happens to those 6 points in holding.

As I understand it, if my reservation starts after December 1st, I should bank my remaining 81 points. If I check in before December 1st, I can use my 2014 points with my 2015 points as my vacation will span 2 use years.

I don't know what the deal is with the 6 points, but I'm assuming I'm going to lose them.

Points need to be available for use during the dates of your stay not when you make the reservation. If your vacation is during your 2014 UY then use 2014 UY points. If your vacation is during your 2015 UY, bank your 2014 points and use them for the 2015 reservation.

Points in holding need to be used prior to the end of the UY or they are forfeited.

For the night in November, you would have to have enough points in your 2014 use year for that night. If you won't know if you can go before your banking deadline, you can always bank the 2014 pts and then borrow from 2015 if you need to book the Nov 30 date.

For the holding pts, you cannot book a reservation for more than 60 days out. Ie if you were to book today, you could not book anything later than June 13th 2015.

So if you want to use them for the Nov 30 reservation, you would not be able to book a room before Sept 30.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong

Of the day of booking.
IE: Book today for travel of any day that ends before June 13, 2015.

Your problem will be that in order to use holding points for the Nov 30th day you will have to book Sept 30th and by then you probably won't be able to book that day, also by the time you can book that day if you held any points in the 2014 year to book with them (since 6 points isn't a night anywhere) then those points are also lost. You are looking at booking right at the busiest time of the year and many place are already booked up for that time- you probably need to make your plans very soon and at least book a reservation you can modify before you need to make final banking decisions but otherwise you are not going to have a place to stay with DVC points.

Stays that span UY's are booked separately. 2014 points for that 2014 UY stay and 2015 points for the 2015 UY stay. You can book online and then send MS a message via the member website to merge the 2 reservations into 1.
