I had another doctor appointment today. The "bruise" that they saw on the placenta was diagnosed as "Circumvallate Placenta".
Still trying to find out some more about it, but:
"A circumvallate placenta is the attachment of the placental membranes to the fetal surface of the placenta rather than to the placental margin. This abnormality occurs in 1-2% of pregnancies. It results in placental villi around the border of the placenta that are not covered by the chorionic plate. A circumvallate placenta is diagnosed when the placental margin is folded, thickened, or elevated with underlying fibrin and hemorrhage. It is associated with premature labor, hemorrhage and placental abruption."
They said that they will do an ultrasound at least monthly and maybe more. At 30 weeks, they will begin non-stress testing on the baby to make sure the placental defect isn't beginning to affect the baby. And they plan to see me about every two weeks.
Of course they said the usual: drink lots of fluids, take it easy, etc. Baby still sounds good heartbeat-wise.
I swear, why can't I get those odds when I play the lottery? Seems like I win the jackpot when it comes to against the odds problems in pregnancies: breech, Down Syndrome, Nucchal cord x4 (why Gabrielle died), now this! All of these are like in the 1% chance range! LOL!!! I WANT TO HAVE THIS "LUCK" WHEN I PLAY THE LOTTERY!!!!!
Anyway, that is all for now!!
