We're booked to stay at AKL in Aug 07 and have read a few threads about the impending works to be carried out. We recieved a letter from the walt disney travel company today telling us that this will be going on whilst we are there. We weren't too concerened at the start but we are going with a friend who has never been to disney and not likely to go again in the foreseable future and we want it to be special. Would anyone recommend we try and change hotels (we will only be there for 3 nights) we stayed there 2 years ago and really wanted to explore the hotel properly this time. Has anyone recently come back that could enlighten us on whether it is likely to disrupt our last few days of a fab holiday!
Thanks all
Charlotte :thumbsup2

I was just going to say the same as Tim, have been reading it hasn't been too disruptive at all, its a beautiful resort, it would be a shame to miss out

We returned from Orlando last weekend and had breakfast at Boma in AKL on Saturday morning before heading to the airport for the flight home. We hadmade an ADR and were slightly early so we went for a walk around the pool area and towards the savannah. There was definitely a lot of noise coming from the construction work - and I commented that I certainly wouldn't have been happy trying to relax by the pool with all that noise going on.

I was amazed to see people sitting on their balconies seemingly oblivious to it.

I wonder if they are giving permission to use a pool at another resort during construction? I know it's frowned upon to use another resort pool, but in this instance maybe it's OK?
Personally, I'm not too worried, as we tend to be up very early and out the door and not really pool/relaxing people, but for anyone who wants to relax it might be worth asking if you could use another pool if you really want to stay at AKL? It will be our first time at AKL and I'm really looking forward to it, so I don't want to change hotels. There is one upside - if lots of people change their bookings from AKL there will probably be more free room upgrades for us that stay!!!

hi

we were due to stay in AKL for 1 week in september in a savannah view room about £1500.

we have trawled all the sites allears.net tripadvisor and here. After seeking a friends advice who works for Thomas Cook we have changed. The work noise is suposed to be horrendous and not very relaxing so much so that TC holidays are no longer sending people to AKl from there brochure.

we have stayed there previously and so we have the idillic memorys from before and dont want them shattered. It is true that you are away from the noise when in parks but what happens when u come back for a recharge?
maybe its just us but we played safe and saved nearly £500 by moveing resort:teacher: more money for other things i guess?

TCD even let us change our accomodation free of charge which itself is a clue its bad only joking TCD!!!!!!!!

Hope it goes well for you whatever you decide

Im going to AKL for a Boma breakfast early in my holiday, and would have been videoing it regardless. However, i'll try to get it uploaded tout de suite and post it on here for the people going so they have a better idea what to expect :)

We stayed at AKL for one night last month before going on a Disney Cruise. The construction was obviously evident and there did appear to be alot of noise during the day.

Oh no, we've been discussing this and really don't know what to do. We are staying at AKL at the end of November for our wedding. We obviously want it to be a relaxing and romantic holiday. I've sent emails to my wedding planner at Virgin and haven't had much joy. After reading this thread I really don't know what to do

We have just returned from AKL, staying in a third floor savannah room. Like others we got a call pre flight from tour company but decided to stick with it. Glad we did, it is a great place and we saw no evidence of construction work. We did hear a little noise early in the morning but nothing intrusive.

However please bear in mind we were out every day returbing in the evening so cannot comment ojn what hppens during the day,

thanks

Hi, thanks for all the great replies and sorry it's taken so long to read them, good old internet problems.

We 're talking about it tonight but I think we'll stick with it, we loved the hotel when we stayed there before and I'm sure we all will again.

Thanks again

If you plan to be at the parks during the day, it shouldn't effect you much. If you plan to spend a lot of time at the resort during the day, then it might be very loud.

we have changed resorts, we are with TC and they advised us to as they have sen reps who said the noise was very loud, and there are discusiions about having to move some of the animals. As we have young children we like to spend a few hours each afternoon by the pool and i didn't want to risk it.

I made the decision to book AKL this week as the rates seem so good at the moment due to the construction I'm guessing;) i think if I was the resort relaxing type then I would be concerned but as i seem to get up and go I think this will be minimal dispruption to me. Of course if I do decide to have a pool afternoon then I can see how annoying this could be. Will have to wait and see:wizard:
