Another Adding-On Points Question

My husband and I are currently in ROFR (hurray!). But I have two questions. I know Disney has a one-time annual purchase of 25 points available - Since we're buying resale, can we still get those some year if we need them? Also, I know DVC members can add on points from Disney in 25 point increments. Can we do that, too, even though we bought resale? And if we are allowed to add-on, do they have to be at our home resort, or can they be at another resort? Oops, I guess that's more than two questions!

DVC is not going to restrict you from giving them money for points. Resale purchasers can purchase One-Time-Use Vacation Points (max of 24 as a single transaction once per UY) and add-on direct from DVC. A direct add-on can be any resort.

Yes, yes, any resort subject to the current minimums.

Wow, what quick answers! Thank you so much! I didn't know about the minimums - that different resorts have different ones. Does anyone know what they are currently?

just remember that if you add-on at a different resort, you cannot combine pts from those contracts until the 7 month window. at 11 months out, you need the correct home resort's points to book that home resort.

You don't have to add on in 25-point increments. If you wanted 27 points or 113 points or whatever number you need, you can add on exactly that number provided you meet the 25-pt minimum for a cash purchase and 50-pt minimum if you finance through Disney.

We just became DVC members and our home resort is Grand Floridian. Hypothetically - if in five years we want to add an additional 25 (cash) or so points can we do that even if the VGF is completely sold out? Does that make sense?

Yes, you can add on additional points either directly from Disney or by purchasing a contract on the resale market with the same Use Year.

After a resort "sells out", Disney reacquires points through foreclosures or by exercising ROFR (Right of First Refusal) on some of the contracts being sold in the resale market. You may have to go on a waiting list until Disney has enough points available in your Use Year.

Thanks for the quick response and great info! :)
