I have a reservation with DCL for the Aug. 21, 2004 cruise. In a couple of days I need to make the final payment.

I'm looking for opinions about transfering the reservation from DCL to DU for the rebate. At this point is there anything else DU can do for me to make this a good idea? Will my docs be sent to DU or straight to me?

For some reason I am very confused about what to do?

Thanks.

IMHO, the best thing is to e-mail DU and ask. I don't know if DU can pick up an existing reservation ... I know they won't take it from another travel agency out of professional courtesy.

We booked through DU last year for this summer, and at one point, I wanted to try to take advantage of a new rebate that was offered. We would have had to lose our reservation and start all over, with a chance of not getting our same stateroom, or main seating, etc etc and perhaps with a higher price since it was closer to cruising time.

It's worth a try, but go to the source to find out.

Good luck!

That's what I mean, it gets confusing at times. I know I don't want to mcuk up the reservation. It should be so easy.

If you want to transfer your existing reservation from DCL to DU it is easy to do. We had a reservation with DCL and I transfered it to DU to take advantage of the rebate. They were also offering an onboard credit when i wanted to transfer it, but that was for new reservations only, and I didn't want to cancel and make a new reservation.

If you are interested in doing it, I would email DU because they can send you a link to the form to fill out for transferring a reservation. You will keep your same reservation and then owe less money when your final payment is due (the amount of the rebate less). If you already have made your final payment, then you may want to ask in the email about getting the rebate. Although, I believe I have read of others transferring after they already made the final payment and getting their rebate.

The bottom line is that it is easy to do and won't mess up your existing reservation. They will only do this if your reservation is with DCL directly and not with another TA.

I have booked 2 cruises with DU and they have been great to work with both times. They are very responsive to any questions about the cruise. And when we decided to book REAS, they handled that very smoothly.

Thanks for the info and for making my nerves less jumpy. I guess one of the other reasons is I like how DU monitors for changes in prices if they go down. My first cruise in Aug. in '01, when I went to make my final payment the price dropped over $1000. So I don't want to miss a price drop or anything else exciting. With my children being older this summer, I'm finding I have even less time to read the boards.

Hi,

We are also on the August 21st sailing! I am toooooo excited :).

Anyway, we just transfered our ressie over to DU to take advantage of the rebate. We have two cabins which gives us a $200 rebate because the total cost of our cruise exceeds $5000. The transfer was quick and easy. I did NOT have to make a new ressie to get the rebate. I understand if you want to take advantage of the shipboard credit it would have to be a new booking. I didn't want to deal with that as I booked this cruise over a year ago and the price has gone way up.

I will be making my final payment to DU on Monday. The way I look at it is $200 pays for most of my REAS fee.

Thanks. That really makes me feel much better. I made our reservation in late Oct. Not sure I could touch the price now.

I forgot about the price monitoring! That's another great reason to transfer to DU. Our price never dropped; in fact it rised significantly after we booked. But it's good to know that DU will let you know if it does drop.

My experiences with DU have been wonderful! We are holding a reservation through DCL that we booked while onboard the Magic. I am going to transfer that to DU to take advantage of DU's benefits and great service. And since I have the onboard credit from booking onboard, I definitely do not want to make a new reservation. There is no doubt in my mind that it will be a smooth transition. ::yes::
