Another 9/4 Refund Question

9/4 trip was paid in full, booked thru travel agency. Travel agency issued a $200 credit upon booking. Last week DCL called to say what cost of trip was now after they deducted the 50% refund for still sailing. I assumed the cost now would be deducted from the original cost but called this morning to verify. I was told by DCL the amount they are crediting me is $610 less than what I figured by taking half of cost after travel agency credit. They said to contact travel agent as part of the difference is the amount of commission they are making on the cruise. I was also told credits are issued once a week but they could not tell me what week my credit would be processed. It doesn't seem right for TA to receive less commission. Any thoughts?

The TA is really just acting as an agent on your behalf, think salesman. As a commission salesman, when a product was returned due to a manufacturer's defect, and the customer didn't purchase a new one, I still lost the commission. I look at it the same for the TA. IMHO

If DCL refunds 50% of the fare, the TA would receive 50% less commission. For me, this is fair. TAs are paid based on the cost of the cruise they book.

Yes, I know it doesn't seem right to reduce the commission to the TA -- they still did the same (more?) work. But, that is just the way of the world.

If the price of the cruise was reduced by 50%, would also expect the TA to reduce your OBC by 50%. Then, calculate the refund based on all that.

The 50% discount does not apply to transfers, airfare, gov't taxes and fees, port charges.

It is just applied to the voyage fare.

It is my understanding that DCL protected the TA's commission.

So even though they were lowering the total fare, they still gave the TA's the full commission amount.

There were no transfers and no airfare included. Stopped at 1 port. Still do not think tax, fees and port charge add up to the difference. Hopefully others will ask their TA the same question re the refund.

the poster meant that he was still going on the cruise.....DCL offered a 50% refund to people who did not cancel and still went on the sailing.
