I read about this rumor the other day....another 24hr event may be coming as soon as July 17th. Anyone else heard about this?

No... That would've likely been announced already and that's in prime summer season doubtful. Once a year seems to be enough for Disney because they never seem to go all that well.

The last one was a smashing success in Anaheim and a quagmire that was not pushing capacity at magic kingdom.

So odds are not going that way..

A certain rumor rag in the blogosphere decided to spread this. It's utter crap and I can't believe anyone would want to report on it...except it probably generated enough buzz to get them lots of pageviews. -.-

Given the July 17th date I'm guessing that this centers around Disneyland's 60th anniversary. I have no doubt that DL will be jammed that day and wouldn't be surprised if they decide to turn it into another 24 hour event.

Considering the amount of planning needed, as well as the amount of PR both coasts' events got before they happened, I highly doubt it. One per year is enough for them. In fact, after the mess that was WDW's, it'll be closer to zero.

The one in California in May was an Epic Disaster. It's undoubtable that DL park will be completely swamped for the 60th, but doubtful they will want to do it again. I could see this years mess putting the kibosh on them doing it again in the future. I don't think they would both in Florida.

Florida's was pretty crappy, too. Barely anything special aside from a t-shirt and an Olaf cup, the only special character appearances were in the early morning (no M+G either) as well as the Disney Channel kids who nobody knows about, and it was all nearly rained out by midnight. We left at about 1:30.

I must have missed the posts about the 24 hour event being a disaster on either post. Can somebody summarize what went wrong?

I believe DL's was more of a capacity issue. Didn't the park go into phased closure?

As for WDW, it was just...an afterthought, really. Management didn't see it as much more than a super long EMH. There was nothing really special other than the ability to cosplay (which several of my friends had been planning and working towards all year). The dance parties were nearly nonexistent, there was very little in the way of 'limited' experiences. We left when it started to rain but I don't think the park was anywhere near 'crowded' even at that point.

DLR had a phase four closure which means no one can get in and crowds were sometimes unbearable. They also had communication problems between front line and management.

Thanks for the reports. It actually sounds to me like the 24 hour events were a success. Would DL have hit stage 4 otherwise?

A capacity closure... Like 12/31/99 (I think i considered climbing the Eiffel Tower statue in the French pavilion to gain more access to oxygen)... Is a "horrible success"

As in they create the potential for the highest number of traffics/sales...but nobody attending has a good time/fond memory.

Sounds like Disneyland experienced that.

I think DLR did a lot at once. The 24 hour event, 60th kick off and three new shows. Both DL and DCA were at stage four for several hours. The guest services outside the parks had to close because of too many people complaining.

Wow - at a time when guest services should have been the most active, they closed?!?!?!

There's nothing you can do...

If the park's full - it's full.

Having 10,000 AP holders shout about it changes nothing...and they're not in the business of paying people off to go away.
