Anoles

We're going on two years living in Florida and although I have learned that the little lizards we have all over the place are actually anoles, I have yet to learn how to pronounce "anoles." Anyone out there know the correct way to pronounce anoles?

ah-no-lees. Did you know that only the bright green ones are native to the USA?

Found in Southeastern USA, Cuba, Jamaica, and other Caribbean islands. Only the green anole is native to the U.S.; all others are released or escaped pets, many of which have survived and bred in the U.S.; the other six species are native to the Caribbean islands. The vast majority of green anoles sold in the pet trade are wild caught in the Southeastern U.S. There are over 36 species of non-native anoles breeding in the wilds in Florida (out of an estimated total of 250 anole species in the world), and there has been considerable interbreeding so markings may be considerably altered from the true wild types.

When I was growing up in Ft. Lauderdale, my friend and I caught a knight anole once. He was probably a good 10" long and we thought he was an iguana at first LOL

Impressive. I had never heard of those. From what I just read, it seems they are most likely seen in southern Florida. They can grow up to 18 inches in length! I'd flip out if I saw one that big.
