Annual WDW SOLOS Meet?

I know what you mean about handing off a Jag! I really don't think there would be room for Cash in the MS pod unless he sat in a seat with the restraint down as the rest of us do!

If Cash gets used to me being around, MAYBE they would let you take him all the way to the loading area and let me stand with him by the back wall there and wait for your return(?) - If you <I>wanted</I> to try that. The ride itself is not visible from that area so he would not see you "moving" or anything. I know that would still be "handing him off," but not to a complete stranger like a CM . . .

Some years ago I spent a great part of my life working with animals - dogs, cats (including exotic), horses, bears, apes, even snakes. I never met an animal I didn't get along with, but at the same time I understand the bond that develops between a person and their assistance animal that is not conducive to the intrusion of an "outsider."

I think this is a great idea. Since I just returned it would be nice to plan something a few months down the road.

Late April or early May is nice. The Flower & Garden Festival is going and the crowds aren't too bad. October/November of next year is also good for those that want to catch the Food & Wine Festival.

Since this is a singles event we can probably avoid the peak times of school vacation season and Holidays.

After reading several descriptions of how Disney sends us into space I am almost certain that Cash would not enjoy the experience, but I would hate to miss it! He has been trained not to accept commands from others (sort of Pavlovian theft -proofing) but those who have a firm will and experience with obedience-trained dogs (like one of the vet techs I know) have had some success changing his mind about what he thinks he ought to do in a given situation. I cannot guarantee that he will not turn into the "wild" dog I first adopted if he should suddenly decide that the situation is not safe... for me, for him, or... He can be a stubborn guy and he is very big.

Probably be better for him to be far enough away so as not to hear me shout, scream, or whatever....If I leave him parked, the best strategy would be to have him surrounded by several people who pet him, talk to him, and distract him...like in a line. I would love to meet you and other DIS members...this is the first situation that I have found that being solo is a problem....No Space Mountain, TOT, etc., for Cash, but it might work...somehow, to park him with multiple friends.

First we work on a meet.....

Hi Shari!

Are you the same "Shari" that I met with Poopie in January 2003 at Sea World for a day?

Hey, I'd love to be a part of a WDW Solos Meet! I like the idea of it being an annual event because I know that I won't make it back to Florida until maybe 2005 at the earliest. I'm living/working in Japan right now and will be lucky to get one trip back to the States in 2004 to see family. But 2005 and 2006 will be much more flexible for me.

So keep me in mind when making your head counts! I'll keep in touch, too!

Hi, CALIFLADY! Yes, I am the same Shari! Poopie told me you were in Japan . . not far from Disney over there? It's good to hear from you.

Count me in!!!!

I'm also up for meeting people for meals. I'm two hours away, but pop down on weekends when I've got nothing going on.

Wow, what a great idea! As I prepare for my second solo trip (Nov. 29-Dec. 6), I find myself reaching out and trying to locate other solos (or folks who might be solo just for the day, as their significant others are at conventions or some other such thing). But the idea of a time when solos could go, congregate, try and find someone to do a park with, have a meal with... what a fantastic idea. Sign this solo traveller up!

I agree it would be fun to have a single meet. I'll be heading solo to WDW 11/20 - 12/2 and while I enjoy my own company, it is nice to have someone to talk with while waiting in lines, having dinner and waiting for evening shows.

It's hard to find other Disney lovers here in Colorado. I can't wait to get to the WL in 20 days! It's starting to snow outside my house right now and I'm ready for a vacation.

karen -

I too was a single disney lover from CO. Now, I'm in MN counting the days until my vacation 11/20 - 12/2! As the wind roars past the windows and the windchill is down in the single digits, there is nothing better than planning a trip to someplace warm!

Even though I live here, I'd be interested in participating in something like this. I'd suggest F&W fest for a good time frame - usually good weather and crowds tend to be fairly light. Plus, visiting the F&W kiosks is a fun way to get to know people. If done in October, MNSSHP could be an option as well. :)

Thanks Shari for putting out the feeler.

Hi , I will be there from 10-29 to 11-7 as a solo ( well with my kids, my mom , my sister and her girlfriend ) but love to meet up with others . I consider myself a solo - the rest just tag along for the ride cause I am the master planner !! LOL.. Michelle

I'll be there 11/28 through 12/8. Perhaps I will meet up with some of you other December travelers.

I think a solo meet would be fun anytime :)

I agree completely, arminnie. This thread is a "feeler" to determine if there is enough interest for the not-too-distant future, but it would at least be next year. I'm thinking late spring or sometime in the fall(?). Summer IS way too hot and crowded! So keep the comments and suggestions coming, folks.

Meanwhile, this adult/solo board is a great place to find other solos for meets prior to our proposed WDW Annual Solos Meet.

I'll be there January, May, and December....Have Wonder Dog, will party....:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Hey-- count me in! It takes me about 30 minutes to get down there, and I'm off most Mondays/Tuesdays and every other Sunday. I only got a seasonal pass this year, so no high-season park-hopping for me. I think F&W Fest is the perfect time for solos... a very social and "adult" (with the heart of a child) atmosphere.

Videogal-- I would LOVE to hang out with you and Cash! Dogs & Disney are two of my biggest loves, so I've often joked about trying to pass off one of mine as a service dog so they could go experience WDW w/me (good luck with that; they are SPOILED). Anyway, I'm a vet, so I hope you'd feel comfortable having me as one of his sitters. :earsgirl: BTW, I've ridden M:S and NO WAY would he be able to ride it; I'm sure he won't mind.

Somebody PM me if you set something up since I don't come to this board all that often.

I think this is a great idea!!!! Would love to be kept informed - and then would have to see what's happening. I am going to Australia March/April 2004, but if all goes I hope/want I may be living in Orlando next summer.......

Let me know once details come about!

DH and I already have ressies to go 5/23-5/30. Although technically it's not solo, he'll be golfing all the time, so really I'll be solo all day. My truly solo trip is always sometime during the Christmas/New Years break from school, but I don't know the exact dates yet for next year. But definitely, 5/23-5/30.

Came to this board today as I was beginning to think of a solo trip for 2004 and this sounds like a great idea to me. Put me down. I already have a ressie with my family for April, but I always book a solo for myself. I am fairly flexible, so keep me posted!!!

Count me in too. I live minutes from WDW and if can assist in planning or offering someone even a ride just say the word.

Would be great and much fun getting together.

Oh if I can offer assistance with Wonder Dog Cash, I would love to help if possible. very use to animals and most actually like me <G>.

See ya,
Brady

Happy 2004, everyone!

Has any more thought gone into an annual solos meet? I'm planning a spring WDW trip, and want to go during value season (I'm cheap!) during April or May for the Flower & Garden Show, avoiding holidays. I need to coordinate my timing with others in the next two or three weeks and nail down the dates.

The Food & Wine Festival in October will be regular season, which isn't too bad for room rates if decent AP discounts are availalbe. If the solos meet(s) are scheduled for that time frame, it might be nice to coordinate the date(s) with the other meets that occur at that time.

I'll check back for comments, or PM me.

Thanks,

Taja :sunny:

I was always thought that a Solo event would be a good idea!!
So count me in. ::MinnieMo

I have gone on many solo trips WDW and other places, I must agree with Diane. One of my last trips to WDW, I was dining in Japan pavillion having lunch in the lounge. There was a young women having lunch also, she was on a business trip and visiting the WDW for just the day. We were the only two there and we where chating away, then I asked her to join me. It was total suprise but a most enjoyable afternoon. :sunny:

Thanks, Paula
