Annual Passholders Get The Short End

Um, zurgswife, of course we're all crazy! Whether we're here on DIS for discounts, advice, hidden mickeys, pixie dust or a ressie for CRT, it's all about a theme park (which was all about a mouse). So, yes, we are all crazy - 50 points to House Zurg!

do you debate everything????
Well, when good people of honest opinion disagree, a frank exchange of views is usually the right course of action. To be honest, compared to other boards (and, ahem, newsgroups) this AP dustup is well-mannered - I've always been impressed by the vast majority of DIS posters [Note: I did get one cranky email recently, but I responded politely and that did the trick].

I do believe that the OP was a Troll. When someone's post count is 1, and that one post uses inflamatory language about the hottest issue on DIS right now, I get suspicious. However, if there's a vote to move this to the Debate Board, I vote Aye.

I guess my frustrationis that I anticipated that an annual passholder would get a better rate, and that it was not a lottery to get the room (never any trouble before). So when I booked this trip in january, and planned my wedding around it with 18 other people, I kinda anticipated that there would be annual room rates avaialble by noon on the day the rates came out. Do you think that unfair? Why else whould I have bought an annual pass? Just to give Disney the pleasure of my company over and over without anything back to me? I doubt it. The annual pass is billed as being a great saver for frequent guests, with room discounts and svings on meals and other benefits. So if they only make (let's say 100 rooms available) how does that live up to the advertising? It doesn't. I would imagine there are quite a few annual passholders who are not happy with this. And, I can't change the date, since it is a wedding.

Well, shut my mouth.

::wrong about trollishness - sorry::

This is what I am talking about, the namecalling. Who are you (DrTomorrow) to judge someone just because they have only 1 post? I have alot more posts than you, but I am not acting as if I am all knowing or that I am better than you because I have more posts than you do. Why are you so upset that someone said something against Disney? I love Disney too, but I don't get offended if someone has an opinion about it that is different from mine, afterall, though I am a shareholder, I don't actually OWN the company and I am not a relative of Walt himself. You should read your own posts and see how you all come off to people...it is rude and obnoxious at times. I took Nitram's post as someone who is very disappointed and was blowing off some steam, you took it as a chance to start a battle. I certainly seems to many of us that you are plain and simply antagonistic. (or maybe just a TROLL)

And as for the inflammatory remarks of Nitram, I did not feel they were inflamatory, not at all. It was Nitram's opinion and I didn't see inflammatory until YOU started posting on this thread.

Why else whould I have bought an annual pass?

To have one year of admissions to the park?

Look, I understand that you are frustrated, I just don't see why you are blaming Disney for not providing something that they never promised to provide. If I were going to book something that revolved around something as important as a wedding, there is no way that I would plan it based on something that might or might not occur. I would go for what I could afford without discounts, and then if discounts came out, I would jump on them and upgrade, if possible.

Wow! I wonder what the response would have been if Dr. Tommorrow didn't apologize.

Nitram, I am sorry for your troubles. Hulabird, you are right in more ways than you know. AirForceRocks and others like you... stay on the debate board or get a life. These people have paid their money to Disney and therefore have a right to complain. When you buy there passes for them, then you can tell them what to say or not to say. No one appointed you the Disney Police. If you don't want to hear "complaining" or "whining", just skip the thread. Seriously, your reasoning and others is getting very tiresome.

sorry, I did not see the apology, me and DrT must have been posting at the same time.

Airforcerocks....one question...WHY does it bother you so much that someone is blaming Disney? It's their opinion! What makes YOUR opinion more right than Nitram's? (Please don't say its because Nitram only has 1 post on this board....)

OK - I'm done. I let off some steam and I thank those of you who listened. Me personally, I have been to Disney a great deal, own stock (even after Roy sold 43% of his the other day), enjoy Disney parks and everything that goes with it. I doubt that I will post again, but I sincerely appreciate your letting me bring this to light and getting some feedback. At worst, I got one person upset, at best, I put a little balance in my perspective. I was not intending to offend, just felt upset. So, thank you and of course I will continue to monitor this fantasic web site as a great source for all things Disney!

Of course it's their opinion, and they are certainly entitled to it. Just as I'm entitled to my opinion that there are way too many people that think Disney owes them something more just because they put out the money, voluntarily, for an AP. Disney doesn't owe them anything other than 365 days of admission to the parks, and all of the whining in the world isn't going to change that.

AirForceRocks and others like you... stay on the debate board or get a life.

Congratulations on your promotion to Resort Board mod!!

I've not seen anywhere in the guidelines where any posters are restricted to particular boards. Would you care to point it out to me?

These people have paid their money to Disney and therefore have a right to complain.

They paid for 365 days of admission. If they aren't getting that, then I agree, they have every right to complain. They also have the right to complain about not getting something to which they are not entitled, but I don't see the logic in that, sorry.

No one appointed you the Disney Police.

But apparently someone has appointed you as the RB Police, is that right? Congrats again!

Seriously, your reasoning and others is getting very tiresome.

Then I would highly recommend the ignore button.

Hmm, this is interesting...

Only people that agree with the OP are permitted to post on the thread? So, the OP can complain, but no one is permitted to complain about the subject of his post?

Boy, I must be the only person who bought their AP because in was a great deal with or without discounts.

Nope, you weren't the only one Y2L...I do the same thing, and then if I can get a room discount, I look at it as a great bonus!

Me too. I certainly didn't buy it thinking I'd get discounts.

The passbook says "Special Passholder rates may be offered seasonally at selected Walt Disney World resort hotels and selected Disney Vacation Club Resorts." There are no guarantees or promises of discounts.

I got mine because it got me into the parks for over 3 weeks this past year. That alone saved a heck of a lot of money.

Nitram, I know what you mean. AFR and safetymom apparently you are completely out of the loop on room discounts!!

For instance, there have been the incredible discount offered via the Fairytale packages. Unfortunately for annual passholders, since they include passes for the stay they are not of any real value, as essentially you are paying twice to enter the parks. So, yes, someone who has never before and never will again go to WDW can get a better deal using the Fairytale package than an annual passholder who has to pay rack rate plus the cost of the AP. Essentially the discounts offered logically exclude annual passholders.

I can understand exactly how frustrating it is. We tend to buy annual passes then try to get in several trips during the year. If the discounts are severely limited on room only then I don't think that we will get AP's in the future, but will get the discount packages. I fully expect that we will, however, make fewer trips as we won't have the AP clock ticking to encourage squeezing in another trip or two.

Curious how do you know that someone that booked the Fairytale Package will never go again or for that matter been before. I am sure many repeat guests booked the FTP and will return again.

Wow, I had no idea members of the DIS had assigned boards.
I also didn't know you couldn't post on a thread unless you agreed with the OP.

Amazing

The AP rates are out, shouldn't AP holders be happy now?

I wonder how many will rethink the way they book their rooms in the future.

I think anyone that makes repeat visits to WDW is a loyal guest. It doesn't matter what type of ticket you purchase.

Yes, I totally enjoy the AP discounts! Rather count on them too! BUT I have been an ap holder for years, (even before 9/11) and remember the days when we did not get the discount until a month or 2 before your trip, and remember 2 different july's that I did NOT get a discount at all, for a resort because NONE where offered, (at all anywhere). They origianally gave them sporatically (was fairly frequent, but still had lingering, doubt), and you where still taking a risk.

We are from Illinois, so no its not a couple hours away, where we use our passes several times a year. But we do, do at least 2 trips for at least 2 weeks each, so the passes work for us.

Will I still go to wdw? Most probably, and continue to get ap's and stay on site. For the last few years, we are spoiled and have stayed at deluxe's & even checked out the "concerige" since it is all the rage here. ;) But Dixie Landings & CBR we're 2 of our favorites and we still visit them, and would not mind staying there if we weren't to get a good rate, or may have to scale back on the number of days we stay down there etc..... To continue our habit.

But lets be honest, I was not on hold yesterday for several hours (at work and had to re-dail a few times, cell phone going out  ), not by myself. The discounts after thanksgiving were very nice, and I appreciate them for sure. Do I want WDW to continue the ap resort discounts, yes! But there has got to be a better way then that mess yesterday.

MKY :earsgirl: :teeth:

I think some people just really hate hearing the truth.

The truth of the matter is that an Annual Pass guarantess ADMISSION ONLY. Sometimes there are discounts associated with it, and sometimes there are not. Disney did not sign a blood agreement with all of us saying that AP discounts would be out all the time and available to ALL OF US.

I buy an AP because I love going to the parks. Yes I do get a nice Florida Resident discount on my AP, but I would not whine about it if Disney ended it tomorrow. Disney is a business, it makes business decisions for the good of the company (or what the decision-makers feel are good for the company).

And for some of you to say that some people can't post here because they frequent other boards is just unbelievable. I hang out mostly on the CB, does that mean I am not welcome here as well (I must also confess I do post on the DB from time to time too. ).
