Same here. After all, if we paid attention to what they say is how it works we wouldn’t have dah discounts nor would my daughter have her ap room discount. If the system lets us sign up, we will. I’m really curious as to whether my daughter will get the email as she was told she would.
Really good question. Best I can recall in the past, no those with only an activated did not get emails (of any sort)

As someone who has an unactivated annual pass...I still think it's time to drop this discussion. There's really no use in speculating about whether or not the pass will have to be active. They've said it before and had it not be true. Yes, it being on the website makes it look more official, but we STILL won't know for sure until whenever invites drop. Currently their systems don't seem to be able to differentiate between activated and non-activated (we've been told it must be activated to see hotel discounts, but that's not true either.) Just have to wait and see. I'm anxious about it too, but the question pops up every three pages or so and causes the same debate/responses each time.
The rule requiring an activated AP is crystal clear. The question is if it will be enforced by IT or will be on the honor system. Worse, Disney does an audit after the signup and cancels improper reservations.

Disney/runDisney seems to have no trouble differentiating an activated AP from a non activated AP for early run registration. 🤷‍♀️

I upgraded my tickets to annual passes after I left WDW and even though they aren’t activated, I am still eligible to receive all the discounts. Booked a Run Disney Race and several hotels.
There have been issues with people seeing discounts and booking things with non-activated ap's, but it seems to be an issue in how they linked them in MDE, not that it's a non-activated AP. The problem was they would call Disney and be told there was nothing wrong, you shouldn't see those things, when in fact there was.

It’s definitely a little strange, but I didn’t upgrade my tickets right away, waited a month or two after I visited the parks in April. My expiration date is still one year from my last day in the park 4/22, so in my eyes, they should be activated, but they aren’t because I haven’t made it back.

When you do a renewal /upgrade you don’t have to reactivate. Your expiration date remains the same because there is no lapse. Your pass should still be active with the upgrade.

I wish. I had to call in just to get FP Planning Cards, so I could make FP’s for our August trip. Was told I have to activate the passes in person and pick them up.

So you used your tickets, upgraded them to annual passes after you used them (but before they were all used, obviously, unless something has changed or I have always misunderstood), but your AP isn't considered active? That doesn't make any sense to me, I didn't even know that was possible. I'm not doubting you, I'm just confused I guess.

That’s very strange unless you didn’t upgade a currant active pass but instead just bought a new pass

Yes, exactly. We had three days left and with multiple trips planned through April of next year, we decided it would be best to upgrade. I had no idea it would be such a hassle, but they aren’t considered active until I pick up in person, even though they expire in April 2020.

Did you pay the difference between a new AP and your ticket value or did you pay the full AP cost? Because it has always been the case that you have to upgrade tickets while they are still valid, which means 14 days from first use for the non-date-based tickets and with at least one entitlement remaining. It sounds that you purchased new APs, in which case, yes, they have to be activated. Or did you have the super old non-expiring tickets?

All 4 of us have activated APs (so the non-activated discussion does not effect me personally), but still, I would hope they do not do this. If their IT allows the non-activated APs to sign up, then those guests will be making travel plans and I highly doubt Disney would risk creating ill feelings by canceling those reservations.

We had the military salute tickets that are valid through late December. We planned our dates before Galaxy’s Edge was announced and intend on camping out, if allowed, so it’s no big deal even if we don’t get an email. We’re just excited to be there :-)

Mine is active also so it doesn’t affect me either but I highly doubt Disney would announce the GE previews to platinum passes, have tons and tons of people purchase them online then turn around and tell them they can’t sign up for the preview because they are not active. This would be a PR nightmare.
The easy solution is to require that you have your pass in hand before you enter.

I'm still hoping that this might be the case - and of course an AP would have to be active on the day of the event, no one would dispute that.

I do wonder if yesterday's change might have been a clumsy and badly-worded edit that was quickly put in place with the intention of covering the fact that people who only have linked AP vouchers (not yet activated) will not receive any passholder emails to allow them to register. Whether it also means that if you do manage to get hold of a link without being sent the email you will be actively blocked by the system is another question. I hope.

Good morning everyone.

FYI, here are a few links to other corners of the DIS covering a variety of SWGE topics:

***Official*** Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Information Thread - Big thread, but discussion the last 1-2 pages related to recent rumors of the second ride's opening date. At the moment, there is no reason to think those rumors and that attraction have anything to do with pending AP previews.

There is also this thread on the Disney Rumors & News board:
Rise of The Resistance Opening?

For now on this thread, we continue to wait for word/news about AP preview dates, sign-up details, etc. :surfweb:
