Do Annual Passholders who already have their passholder magic bands get a new set when they book an onsite stay? If so, do we need to bring/wear both? Thanks!
So if you're an AP, you get multiple sets if you stay on site, but if you stay offsite, you can't even pick up your AP magic bands when you get down there for your first trip and activate your pass. For those of us staying offsite but planning on doing the parks for 10 - 14 days, you get nothing as pertains to Magic Bands - they'll just mail them to your house after your trip. Yes, very well thought out, Disney.

You don't get multiple AP bands. And the bands for staying onsite have nothing to do with the AP. You, too, could get "free" bands during this visit, if you stayed even one night onsite.

This is only if you wait to activate your AP until you arrive. We have APs that we renewed and magicbands were shipped to our house immediately even though we did not have an onsite reservation booked. Disney has no way of knowing you have APs until you activate them so they would not know to ship them to you. I also think if you bought the APs directly from Disney and used the "will call" option for picking them up instead of getting a voucher mailed to you then you could link them to MDE prior to your trip and Disney would mail the Magic bands immediately (however I am not positive about that).

Thanks. I do understand that - but what I don't understand is why they can't have a location on property where people who are buying new Annual Passes and want to wait to activate them until the first day of their trip can go an pick up their magic bands during that stay. It seems relatively simple to implement - they could just hand over redeemable vouchers at the time the passes are activated.
I have heard that we might be able to go to Guest Services and get temporary "plain" Magic Bands to activate during the stay.
Doesn't matter to me, but we have a lot of kids in our group for whom it would be handy to have the bands rather than keep track of the actual passes.

I definately know that you could link the APs to MDE and make FP+ selections 30 days out.

Disney will not mail the Magic Bands out until the passes are activated (I've spoken to numerous people at the customer service lines). It's a ridiculous procedure, and one I think they'll obviously amend at some point in the future (which doesn't help when you're getting ready to drop $10,000 on a "magical" vacation).
I was able to link the will call voucher # to my MDE and make FP+ selections (although I spent a total of 3 hours over 1 weekend dealing with a level 3 tech support person to get that to work right).
