I was wondering where I could purchase the passes? And second I was wondering if they were worth purchasing even though we are not sure if we would be going to Disney every year. I thought it might be a good idea since we visit my parents in Daytona at least 1 a year. Third and last do you have to get your finger scanned or can you just show them i.d.? :confused3

They can only be purchased from Disney...either at Disney.com or at Guest Services at any park or DtD.

They are worth purchasing if you know that you'll get a room discount with them that will outweigh the cost of purchasing them instead of a MYW pass. They are worth it if you plan to spend more than 13 days in the parks in a calendar year, even without a room discount.

The fingerscan is the method of choice. Showing a picture ID is used to confirm identity if the fingerscan fails.

Easiest thing to do is to buy it at the park just before going in.

Two trips and twelve days in the theme parks with hopping, and the annual pass is worth your while, not counting any discount benefits. But you can get two ten day expiring non-hopping regular passes for less.

Since you stated that you are in the area maybe once per year, it depends on the # of days you plan to go to the parks like the other posters stated. If you only go a few days each year then get the non-expiring MYW passes.

AND, if you do plan on getting an AP (they expire one year from activation), then make your disney resort reservations first and request the AP discount; it you get the AP rate, then buy your ap's when you get there and present them for the discount.

We bought ap's for the 1st time this year since we have been going 2X per year and went straight to DtD the day we arrived and bought the passes at the guest services area (near planet hollywood); that meant we had passes in hand when we checked in the resort later that day.

If you are military or DOD you can get them from Shades of Green Resort and do not have to pay taxes on them. Also if you make 2 trips beofre the expire it makes them pay off.
