Where is the best place to get Annual Passes? How long do you have to wait for them when you get them? Do they come in the mail, do you get them the same day? I am currently planning my vacation to the DLR for next year and want to get an annual pass instead. But this is not an adventure I have ever looked into. Is one pass better then the next? I understand about black out periods with the different passes, but are there any additional things I should know about?

When I did mine I just went to Disneys website, got an email confirmation the same day that I took to the ticket booth to get my actual pass. As far as what the difference is, the deluxe pass is cheaper, has the block out days and gives you I believe 10% off at most restruants and stores. The premium pass has no block out days, gives free parking and 20% discount at most stores and 15% at restraunts.
Here is a link that gives you more info about all the passeshttp://disneyland.disney.go.com/passes/

We bought ours online: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/passes/

When you purchase online, the pass is not activated until you get to the parks to use it. You print down the ticket, take it to the turnstiles for a ticket. At some point, you go to the ticket booth to get your pass.
If you buy the Deluxe, you can actually activate it on a blackout day without having to buy a blackout pass.
You get discounts on tours, merchandise and food.

Also, you can upgrade park hoppers to an annual pass for the price difference. It looks like you are planning a trip to DL in a month, that might be an option for you if you are taking your next trip within the year.

This is correct, you can upgrade park hoppers to an AP, however please note that your AP will be backdated to the first date you used the park hoppers, also note that the upgrade must be done before the end of your last day of park hoppers. So, if you have a 3 day hopper you must upgrade to your AP on the 3rd day before the end of the day.

Discounts are as Chelsea listed above.

Thank you all for your replies. I am so conflicted on what to do. I wont be purchasing my annual pass for awhile yet. My next trip after this August trip wont be until Nov of 2013, or I would totally consider upgrading my pass pretty quick.

My whole issue is that there are no more 8 day hoppers and I am being forced to purchase a 5 day at $234 which is $30 less then a basic "Select" annual pass for $269. However with the basic you pretty much have all your weekends taken from you and when I am on vacation, I kinda like to enjoy my time at the DLR taking in the shows that only play on weekends during off season. But if I purchase the next passport which is the Southern California annual passport for $329 it has better options for park visits. I just hate feeling that I am getting totally suckered almost an extra $100 per person when I still have to work around dates that I shouldn't have to in order to make things work and still be forced to miss out on days I would like to be in the park. I dont mean to sound like I am complaining. I am more so bewildered that my choices are being limited. I'm not a local. I cant go when I want. I want to maximize my time when I go to the parks. I am sure others are in the same boat currently wondering what to do too. I am thinking maybe the $329 pass is the way to go. I do get discounts like you say.

I would like to think I can get a 5 day pass and upgrade for $5.00 a day but who is to say that wont be outlawed one day? People are already getting told NO and others YES. I just figured I better start asking questions now and prepare myself for next year.

If you aren't a local, then you can't get SoCal passes.

Some people are getting told no on the $5 upgrades because they aren't asking the right people.

Skiingfast is right...you have to live in so cal in order to get that pass...the only passes you would be eligible to get are the deluxe or premium and remember dont count on the price this year being the same when you are ready to get it unless you purchase it before the increase takes affect so keep your eyes and ears open for when they will do it which is probably going to be end of may or beginning of june next year
