I was wondering if disney still issues the same paper annual passes they did in the past. I recently got a annual pass for universal and I find so much convinient since is like a credit card.

The ones we got in December were paper. Very flimsy! I wish they would get the more durable ones.

We asked a CM about this and the response was "Have You tried to tear them?" They are suppose to be made of a very tough..Fiber?..There have been other threads on here that mentioned the name. :sunny:

The one I got in January is paper. I think it's actually some kind of Tyvek, the stuff Fed-Ex envelopes are made of. I keep it in my wallet and on vacation I stuff it into a purse pocket and never have a problem.

::yes::
They are made of Tyvek and are very difficult to damage.
A CM told us that the plastic credit card ones are actually less durable and they replace a lot more of them than the Tyvek ones. One of the reasons is that people tend to stick the hard plastic ones in a back packet and then sit on it, cracking the card.

I have to agree with those who like the 'paper' ones. I find them much easier to stuff away than the credit card types. The hard plastic ones are the only ones we have had to have replaced, multiple times. With the Tyvek ones, I can carry all of ours in my fanny pack and they take up very little room. The cc type are pretty bulky. I have had to replace them due to them cracking. The 'paper' ones have over 20 days use on each of them and never a problem. I hope they keep them this way.

We got soaked one night watching wishes. All of our AP's were in the AP sleeve in my fanny pack. The next day they just tore right in half when trying to remove them from the sleeve. So water is one thing that does not agree with the paper AP's.

I much prefer the thinner "paper" passes. I've got enough of those thick credit and ID cards filling out my wallet as it is. I've never had a problem with the durability of my AP's -- don't worry, they are not going to wear out, even when you use them 50+ times a year.

More durable? Have you tried to tear it? it's more durable than you'll realize.

Indeed.

The tickets do not tear unless you cut a "starter notch" into them. Trust me, I was given the task of destroying rolls of ticket media one night. It tooks some time and a good pair of scissors to cut up what was left of the ticket rolls.

The problem with the plastic cards is that the magnetic strip is a lot more sensitive. When the room keys didn't work for the card readers at Pleasure Island, it was usually because they had been rubbing against a credit card, or other magnetic source.
