Annual Pass

Quick question. We live in Texas so usually only go to WDW once every year or two. When we get a GAC they give it to us for the days of our stay. However this coming year we have got AP's and are going a total of about 40 days, in 5 trips. Since my son will have an annual pass can we get one for the year or do we need to get one at the beginning of each trip?

Even annual pass holders do not get GAC covering the entire year. We have to get them approximately every 3 months.
