Hi all! Since a lot of us DVC members are annual pass holders I was wondering if anyone has actually gone to the sale at the World of Disney store in DTD? If you have were the sales good and is it worth it to go? Hubby is thinking about sending me on a solo trip:cool1: just so I can hit this sale. I'm excited at the thought of my 1st solo DVC trip but I was wondering how good the sale actually was to have to line up at 4:30 or 5am? :goodvibes

I have not gone to the summer one, but the one I went to was chaotic and I did not find the sales to be worth it. I will never go to one again. JHMO.

Been there ... Done that ... Never again.

Very long lines and very poor bargains, IMO.

YMMV!

What is the date of the sale this year?

I have been curious about the sale as well!

My Mom passed away a few weeks ago, the week before we were to leave for a WDW trip with almost the whole family - so we had to cancel, and have points in holding - and my DW is telling me to take a solo trip to get away and relax. So.... This might fit the bill! I was considering going at the end of July - but I could be persuaded to change the dates with a great sale! :lmao:

I'm so sorry about your moms passing. My condolences:hug:. The sale this year is on July 23rd.

Thanks crazybones - we had planned the trip back in December and we were all looking forward to it so much. Mom talked about it almost every day! However, we are sure she is in the happiest place... NOT on Earth :littleangel:

I miss her every day - and I think I always will.

I always shed a few tears during Wishes - but on my next trip, I think I may need a chamois!

I remember summer nights growing up when Mom would stand out in the yard and help us watch for the first star to appear in the sky - so I always thought of her during Wishes anyway.

Thanks

We've done the sale in December. Our experience was the same as others; been there, done that, no need to do it again. Long lines, rude people and we received less than half of what we paid for. Merchandise was to be mailed, unfortunately it was put back on the sales floor.

Did the December one in 2009 and as others stated...never again!! The sales were not that good for the amount of time it took from my morning. I meet a few ladies the night before at LeCellier and they warned me to get there early. It opened at 7 am and when I arrived at 6:30 there were about 300 people in line. It was about 7:30 before I even got in and by then it was a messy mad house.

The only plus was that I meet some really nice people in line and had some good conversation!!

When it comes to sales - there are the 10-35% off sales - the 35-50% - and then the 50-75% sales.

I would speculate that this sale falls into the 35-50% off sales category -

Is that correct?

I assume that this is a summer merchandise clear out - plus odds and ends on clearance.

Being that annual pass holder already get an OK % off - what would be the ultimate sale?

For what its worth, over the years we have always found way better bargains by hitting both area Character Wearhouses (one right across I-4 at the Premium Outlet Mall near DTD and the other on International Drive where the old Belz Outlets used to be.) In fact, we always go there first. We did one of the DTD sales and found the same thing that others did...the sales were less than spectacular, the lines were long, and you found yourself grabbing stuff you didn't really want to justify going. The Character Wearhouses merchandise changes all the time, so we make sure we hit at least the one opposite DTD each trip. It's especially good for "dated" merchandise, so if you went to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party and refused to pay $40 for the 2011 sweatshirt, you might well find a slew of them there for $14.99, if you don't mind having it after the fact.

If you are pin traders, you can pick up cheaper pins there to trade with. Well worth at least one look.

Thanks guys!! You've all definitely given me something to think about. I appreciate all the responses and help :cool1:.

Way back when (15 years ago I think) there use to be another Disney outlet type store in one of the malls on International Drive.

I don't believe it was affiliated with Disney, but I thought it was called Character Warehouse as well. The merchandise was older (and cheaper) than what you would find at the "official" outlet stores, but it was not as bad as the "discount" stores that are scattered all around I-Drive and 192.

I remember it being in a rinky dink, one story mall that was set up in large crossroads type layout. With an "antique" carousel smack dab in the middle of the place.

Does anyone remember the place and is it still around? Or am I just jumbling together a couple of different memories?

I went to the first sale a couple years back in December, and it was one of the single worst experiences I've had on Disney property. I wound up in tears at the cash register, and nearly walked out without buying a thing after waiting in line for over 30 minutes, and having to have my order rung up twice, and wait for a manager to do a price override on one of the doorbusters twice (the second time the manager came to me she said, "You're still here?").

Never again. No savings is worth the aggrevation that I went through for that silly sale.

We are talking about one and the same place. The Disney Character Wearhouse in the dilapidated mall with the carousel was the original one. It has since been replaced by a new, chic outlet mall built on the grounds of the demolished old Belz Outlets, but still has a presence there (and a very nice, well-stocked store). It and the other Character Wearhouse at the Premium Outlet Mall are staffed by Disney cast members and sell "real" Disney merchandise.

I have been able to get some good quality Disney items like snowglobes and Dept. 56 Christmas houses, Disney Cruise Line scrapbooks and lots of other stuff at dramatically lower prices at the Character Wearhouses, sometimes even when these items are still in theme park shops at full price. All it takes is one time buying a Cinderella castle picture frame for $30 at a MK store and then seeing the exact same one at Character Wearhouse, same trip, for $9.99before you learn to check there first. (Yes, I returned the $30 one!)

My SIL and I did the sale last year. I loved it!

We enjoyed just shopping the two of us and the early bit wasn't too much hassle, it was kind of fun! One of us was at OKW and the other SSR. We walked from SSR.

I got several tops for $5 (kids and adult) and some great bags for $5 too. I also got the high school musical outfit for my DD with poms and everything for just $7. I thought it was fun, and we're sad that we're off by a week this summer and will miss it.

The best part was the people. Everyone is so nice and it was like black friday shopping with best friends. ;)

I read about the summer sale online today. I will be going this year. It says up to 75% off 630-9am July 23rd and the first 1000 people get a gift.

I plan on going, but I am not sure how early to arrive. Does anyone know how soon people start arriving?

My DH and I did this in December 2009 for the sale. Same thing, first 1,000 people got a gift. We were there by abot 6 am and were towards the END of the 1,000 people! We were happy when we got our wrist band to allow us to get our gift. Then we found out the gift was one of those ugly vinylmation things. We gave ours to the first kid in the store that we saw and then we left. The store was SO crowded and there really weren't any items that we wanted.

I go to the outlet malls now, too, and get far better deals each trip on merchandise there. I also go there FIRST before buying anything in the parks because sometimes there is current merchandise at the outlet mall.

Where are these outlet malls? The only ones I know of, I was unaware they had Disney outlets there. Thanks for your help and info! :thumbsup2
