annual pass sales??

Disagree here ref DVC members loyalty, we have chosen to spend tens of thousands of dollars UPFRONT to guarentee that we come back for years if not decades. There are those that keep coming back (we returned yearly if not more often for 25 years even before DVC) and probably do spend more money but the only guarentee of their loyalty for the company is for the trip that they have currently paid for as there is no "skin in the game" to ensure their annual return ..... if we are simply a drop in the bucket in the big scheme of things that makes it all the more infuriating that we, if noone else, aren't offered annual passes or in their absence at least discounted tickets.

From what I understand, FL residents comprise the largest group of AP holders, not DVC.

So, we won’t get access to the passes until they do.

Of course, it would be great if they offered us more and I know people hate to hear it, but we didn’t buy expecting to get more. We bought to save over the long term on our stays..and for the most part we do.

All one can do is decide if the current situation with the changes Disney has made..and will make in their leadership..are enough to remain visiting the parks.

We made the choice to buy DVC because we love going. We adjust because going makes us happy and it’s still worth it for us.

ETA. We have made adjustments. We have an owners locker to hold alcohol and things. We eat fewer QS meals than before. We spend less on things. But, at the end, we don’t regret buying or investing in what we have.

FL resident annual passes are still available, are they not? I got my mother one a few weeks ago, maybe something changed.

I'll never understand why DVC folks feel entitled to things over other guests. There are many groups of people missing out on the option of an annual pass.

Written in to the contracts is why. They either need to provide APs to purchase or an equally valuable alternative must be provided.

Just the lowest level one. Not the Sorcerer Pass or the Incredi pass that DVC owners can get. They pulled those from FL residents as well.

Have you read the updated Membership Perks document?

We are not guaranteed anything, including an alternative product if AP sales are suspended.

All the contract states is who is entitled to membership perks if they exist but are incidental benefits not included as part of the purchase.

Has Disney said why they are not offering annual passes? Is there any chance that there was so much pent-up demand and points out there that they felt there would be way too many people trying to go to the parks?

No, but it has nothing to do with DVC and excess points. DPEP runs the AP program and decided not to offer them,

I think it had to do with capacity concerns when they stopped the again Before the holidays.

Now, I think they have not returned because the parks are doing pretty well and crowds are heavier again...this coming week, I believe most days are completely sold out.

My hope is we see them back come Spring…because I do want to get a voucher so I can possibly not renew as the current date I have is not the best.

Chapek made a comment on a investor call a couple of weeks ago that theme park tickets holders are “more preferred”.

Right now, Disney has the advantage over its DVC members. I can only imagine how they will react to its Dvc members that own at the older resorts when 2042 approaches.

I only hope that they don’t raise AP prices another 200-300 when AP comes back. But if they do I will sell all my 2042 contacts and just use my newer resorts as stays. I would be happy with that as well. Just wish that car rentals would come down in price.

We are a retired couple that was planning to stay a good 2 months a year in our DVC but that has now changed.

Once at Kidani Village I actually had a CM at the front desk tell me they needed to tend to "paying guests" first. I took that one to the hotel manager because that was beyond belief. But it illustrates the mentality for some at Disney about DVC.
I'm glad you talked to the hotel manager about that comment. Really, DVC owners at AKV are paying guests - they even pay that CM's salary, because MFs are calculated to cover all estimated costs, and Disney doesn't pay unless actual costs are greater than estimated.

For now. Just wait for either the pent up demand to end due to pandemic or a change in the economy. There are reasons why they started to sell annual passes. It is amazing how fast people forget.

They do like to both court and use us when it suits them. 2008 or so - get 18 months on an AP as the recession was hurting them and they needed greater attendance. AP's for locals so they will bring day ticket holders and the list could be lengthy of times when they've welcomed the return guests with wide open arms. Even during the pandemic I'd believe they hated DVC as they did not want to operate the resorts but then when Universal and Sea World reopened and Disney responded in like they used the DVC resorts (where we already paid for everything via our dues) to have rooms for the cash guests who wanted to visit. They are very fickle towards the repeat customers. I don't know if we need rewards but we don't need to be talked about so poorly. In my own business experience I'd NEVER do that because whether you're benefitting at the time or not there almost always comes a point where you'll be happy to have a good loyal base.

the term “loyalty” is thrown around way too easily around here -did you buy DVC out of a sense of duty or charity - or did you buy because you thought it would save you money on rooms at a place you love visiting ? If you are already benefiting from cost savings on rooms , why do you feel entitled to additional discounts? Don’t you feel like you are already ahead of the game ?

Would you have bought DVC if those 4 major gates didn't exist?

"DVC is only guaranteed to provide you a room." is one of the great myths so instilled over so many years by veterans on boards like this one, that people believe it because it's been brow-beaten into them over those same years. Horse crap. DVC would be the most worthless TS in the entire world (and that covers some ground) if it weren't for those gates. I wish people would stop separating the two. DVC and those gates are as inseparable as earth and her moon.

DVC owners get the "discount" because they pretty much paid for 50 years of resort stays up front. Disney didn't do anyone any favors by building DVC, they did it to make money and a lot of it, jut like any other timeshare company.

To me, when talking about business, loyalty means "repeat customer". I didn't buy DVC out of the kindness of my heart for Disney, nor did Disney sell it to me out of the kindness of their heart. There isn't really any "entitlement" in the sense you mean it in a business transaction, other than you are "entitled" to what the contract states. Nobody is expecting free AP's, at least I hope not. We all know we aren't guaranteed the perks. We all know that technically DVC guarantee's you a place to rest your head, nothing else. Nuance means a lot though. Like @WilsonFlyer said, nobody would have bought DVC if it were in Grand Rapids, Michigan (no offense Grand Rapids). If tomorrow the parks closed up, but you could still go stay at your DVC villa, Disney would be even steven with you contractually, but I'm pretty sure most people would be pretty ticked off. Marketing DVC as a second home, welcoming you as part of the family, long time sales of AP's to "loyal" customers, and then the rug is pulled out from under you one day and you are told you aren't technically a valuable customer- can you really blame people for being upset? That doesn't reek of entitlement to me, it reeks of horrible practices by corporations. Why anyone would defend a corporation who pays their employees so little, price gouges their repeat customers, enacts policies that are hostile to their customer base, and flat out refuses to have a two way conversation with their timeshare owners is beyond me.

Entitled? No and don't believe I said that, deserved yes, just like I feel I deserve a better deal than a new customer from the cable company I have been with for years. Different perspective is ok
