Quick question guys. Can I get a annual room discount if I activate my Annual Pass the first day of my stay? Hopefully similar to booking the Teacher discount at the Swan or Dolphin and showing them my ID on check-in.
Yes. You can actually get the discount without a pass by just calling Disney reservations. They will put the discount on, you just need to show a ACTIVE and VALID pass at check-in (NOT the exchange voucher). You can just stop by Downtown Disney Guest Services to get your pass before you get to your hotel.
If you have a late plane arrival, you MUST get the pass though... so be aware of your times. I think the DD Guide Services closes at 10PM or 11PM on weekdays. They will not check you in at the discounted rate if you don't have that pass.
Yes, you can book a room with the AP discount without having the pass at the time of booking. You can check in without having the actual AP, but you will have to show the activated AP within 24 hours of checking in .

Technically, this is correct. However, I have been an annual passholder for several years and have made reservations for many trips using annual passholder discounts. I've never been asked to show my annual pass at check in and never been prohibited from checking in at the discounted rate.

Same here. I have never been asked to show AP. You must book the discounted rate before you go . You can not just show up and expect them to apply a discount.

Me too - I had the discounted rate two nights at Pop and two at Contemporary; only had the voucher my first night at Pop, and neither Pop nor CR ever asked to see my AP. I was happy to have it regardless!

I wasn't about to go to the trouble of hiking to exchange my voucher for the actual annual pass after flying cross country before I checked in to the YC this Dec.. I checked in, got my beautiful room, and they never even asked to see the pass. I did buy the pass from Disney at the same time that I booked the room using the discount - and that might have been noted on my reservation, though.
We were asked for our AP last Jan. at check in at POR. I just had my voucher as we were flying from the west coast, so don't get to WDW untill late afternoon. Getting DME from airport to resort with carry on, it's kind of impossible to get off at POR and hop a bus to DTD to get pass before checking in. It wasn't a problem with them. As mentioned they give you 24 hrs to show them your validated pass. Guess it must be a lot easier for those who drive to do this.
We checked in to Poly on Tuesday with an AP rate, and we weren't asked for an AP. We were able to buy APs from a CL CM. They are separate from our room keys, but on the same type card.
When I've bought a pass, and gotten an AP room discount, it's always been through an upgrade to a MYW ticket that I bought from Undercover Tourist or that I had for a couple of years so it was a lower price than the then-current gate price. That was done after I'd used the ticket once at a park gate.
So Disney didn't have me in the system as a passholder, since I wasn't one yet, and still I didn't have to show a pass.
