Annual Pass resort room discount before activation.

I tried searching this, but couldn’t find the specific answer. With the new sorcerer AP I am purchasing today, do I need to activate it to be eligible for the AP room discounts? I need to add a couple cash reservation days to the rooms I have booked with points for this July. Currently there is not a DVC cash discount for the nights we need. My question is if I see a AP discount become available, would I need to activate my AP and have that as an immediate start date to book the AP room discount rate, or can I do that just having purchased the pass?

It used to be that you could book before activation. But since we became DVC, we have not done it so not sure how the rules work!!

We had AP vouchers in 2017 thru most of 2018 before activating and could not access AP room rates, etc. until activated. I don't remember if I asked on here, called Disney or both - but I know I tried.

Seems kind of crazy because if you're planning in advance, I feel like you should just need your AP active at check-in.

Your AP doesn't need to be activated prior to arrival. You'll just need to present proof of the activated pass sometime during your stay.
