Annual Pass Questions!

My boyfriend and I are heading down to Disney World next month and we are likely going down again at some point in the fall. We are planning to upgrade to annual passes, but I am curious about some of the logistics. We are currently in a package that includes eight-day park hoppers. We used a pin code for a room discount but I don't know the exact percentage of savings.

Should we upgrade to annual passes over the phone prior to going down? Will a possible annual pass room discount probably be a bigger discount than the one from our pin code? If we don't upgrade until we arrive, how do we go about doing that? When taking advantage of the annual pass discount, is there a card or something that we will present? Is there anything else I should know?

Pin codes can be vary. Without knowing what your discount for that is, you can't really tell if the AP discount is better. You could always call Disney and talk to them, they will be able to give you exact pricing so you can make a more informed decision. If you wait to upgrade there, you just go to Guest Services and upgrade before your last day. You will get an annual pass card to show for discounts, don't forget you are to show a picture ID as well when using the AP discount.

You can call and get annual pass rates and book without having a pass. You will have to get the pass when you get there and show it when asked.

When you upgrade to an AP you will have to pay the difference between the park hoppers and the AP. Just go to guest services and they can do that for you. If you use the annual pass discount to modify your room rate, this won't affect your AP date. Once you update from Park Hoppers to AP that is when your AP will activate.

Your annual pass can only be activated at GS or a ticket counter, calling is not going to activate it and there really isn't a reason to upgrade before you go.

1. Just that any available AP discounts for purchases and meals can be accessed earlier if you upgrade earlier.

I've used the AP for merchandise discounts and it's come in fairly handy for that. If you plan to buy anything - the 20% in many of the stores is nice to have so if you know you'll upgrade to the AP you may want to do it at the start of the trip rather than the last day...especially if you are buying some of the more expensive things like Pandora charms, D&B bags, clothes at the new dress shop in Disney Springs, etc. - and check to see if the discount will work for those and/or other places you might shop.
