annual pass question

I spoke with someone at the Disney Store about purchasing annual passes.
In the past, we have received a voucher and then turned it in for the actual pass when we got to Disney World .
Apparently, my Disney Store now carries the actual pass, not vouchers.
Im assuming the pass wouldnt be activated until we went to the parks and my expiration date would be a year from the date of activation, not the purchase date. Am I correct?

They carry the plastic gift type cards just like a 4 or 5 day pass etc. You go to guest relations to get them activated just like when you had received a voucher before. Hope this helps.

So, are the APs different than what you purchase at WDW? Or, do you turn in the plastic cards when you go to guest relations? I thought I heard someone mention that the APs were "flimsy"...would these be more durable than the ones purchased at the parks?

Sorry, if these are stupid questions? I am just a bit confused!!

All our annual passes have always been the flimsy paper type. Im thinking that I take the durable plastic card and trade it in for the paper one.
Not sure if the CM I spoke with was confused. She definately said it wasnt a voucher, it was an actual annual pass.
I guess it would be easy enough just to get the AP at guest relations. I just didnt want to carry all that cash with us on the way down to Florida.

Just a note on the "Flimsy" passes. They are made of a Tyvek type material (Tyvek is used as an insulating wrap around houses) It is quite durable. I think better than plastic myself.
