Annual Pass Question

We had annual passes which expired in January 2003. If I would want to purchase annual passes again, how long a break in time would I have to have before Disney wouldn't treat my purchase as a renewal?

Since renewals expire on the same month and day as your old passes your renewed passes would theoretically expire in Jan 2004. I think it's pretty safe to say you'd be looking at (and wanting) a non-renewal AP.

If you wanted to purchase a brand new AP the day after your prior AP expired you can. Disney won't stop you from spending the full amount rather than the renewal amount. You aren't required to renew your AP if you don't want to.

So to answer your question: one day.

when we just bought ours in Aug the clerk told us we had 30 days after the experiation date to re-new our AP or it would cost us the new AP rate.

We get APs every year and never renew within the window, although we do buy the vouchers. If you renew, your expiration date is the same as the original AP, just one year later.
If you wait to activate your voucher on your next trip, then it is good for one year from the date you activate.
We find that by not doing the renewal, every 3rd or 4th calendar year, we get by with no AP expense.
This year, we will activate in Dec. and have trips planned for Dec, May, Oct/Nov. No AP expense in 2004-yipee.
Next trip after those are in 2005-we will buy vouchers then.
But, this works for us and may not work for everyone. But, it you dont go very very frequently, I would consider not doing the renewal and just waiting until your next trip.

This is a good question and I have an example of what CAN happen if you let your AP expire.

My pass expired in January (2003) and I had that extra month offered to me. I knew I wouldn't be going down again so I let it die..........

lo and behold, my father treated several family members to a trip to DisneyWorld in April. I was allowed to renew my pass then and there, BUT with the new expiration date of Jan 2004, not April, the month I was re-newing it in.

Did that make sense?
