My family went in August. We bought our tickets through UCT. DD and I upgraded to AP, without one question regarding where we bought the tickets. Tickets were bridged, we were told the total we owed, which is what we calculated prior. We did this at DTD. It seems resorts can't upgrade, that's what we were told. My other DD and DH added a day to their ticket at MK. At the ticket window, the CM asked were I bought the tickets. I was like ????, then told her an agency. I think she wanted to know, because she made a small comment regarding the price to add being to high. So she must have bridged the ticket to the $10.++ for each additional day.
I spent a lot of my day (today!) trying to figure out whether it was going to be worth it for us to get upgraded to APs this year, if we went next year (a little earlier in the year). At 5/6 days each year, I realized it was pretty much a wash. We don't spend much on merch, so that discount doesn't add much for us. We considered doing it in order to get a Tables in Wonderland Card, but after paying for it, and considering how many counter service places don't take TIW, plus table services places adding 18% gratuity...well that ended up close to a wash as well. And then I thought about the possible AP hotel discounts.....before realizing that we'd be going during the fall discounts season, and probable free DDP season and so that a wash too!
In other words, for US, for 5/6 days each year, it wasn't really going to be worth it.
(And then my husband told me he wants to skip going to Disney next year and I maybe cried a little.
) BUT if you were wanting to throw in an extra weekend trip or something, it may be worth it. You won't save money in the long run, as a PP pointed out, but you may get MORE for the money you are spending, you know?
