Annual Pass Question

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

I currently have a Deluxe AP that expires in August. I would renew, but here is my dilema.

I am running the Disneyland Half Marathon on Labor Day weekend. Planning on being at DL Thurs to Mon. Unfortunately Saturday and Sunday (day of the DL Half) are both blackout dates. In order to not have to pay $40 a day on blackout tickets, this is what I have come up with:
-Let my current AP expire
-Buy a 5 day park hopper
-Use if for Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun
-On Monday, use the park hopper to buy a new annual pass

If anyone can see any other options, PLEASE let me know. Is there any negative to letting my pass expire?

Thanks!

Congrats on the 48 and on your upcoming running of the 1/2 marathon. I think your plan works fine. The only question I have (and I don't know because I never had a delixe): Isn't there a discount for renewing as opposed to buying new? Is that discount more than the cost of the blockout tix? If yes, reconsider. If no, great plan!

The discount is only generally something like 20 bucks...definitely not worth the blockout fees.

As long as you're happy with the Deluxe, your plan sounds good.

BUT if you think that you might want the Premium during your next AP year...they've been having a deal where if you renew and upgrade at the same time, you actually can use your Premium privileges before the end of your first pass.

So if your pass ends August 18, you could renew as soon as they told you that you could, you could upgrade at that same time, and you'd get July 18 to August 18 with Premium privileges, then your new AP would start August 18 through the next Aug 18.

So if you thought you might like a Premium, look into that. If you're happy with the Deluxe, do the upgrade plan. And just remember that you pay the full amount of the AP, so don't go out of your way to find a discounted ticket. You'll just lose the discount (unlike the way it is at WDW).

Sounds like a great plan to me!

You'll also get a Magic Morning with your plan, which is another perk you would not get if you renewed your AP (assuming you aren't staying in a Disney hotel).

I think your plan will work great. Just know that when you upgrade they have your info in the computer so you won't have to do another pic. :)

Oh sure, the one time I might actually want a picture taken! I could do it right after the half marathon! I would look just great then. HAHAHAHA

LOL well you could ask them to do a new picture, they did it for us when we upgraded from Deluxe to Premium APs. :)
