Annual Pass question...when does it start and end?

We are considering getting the annual pass with our DVC discount since we may be going there this year for 14 days (split into 2 trips). First trip is this November, the second we are planning for Sept or Oct of 2011. When does the annual pass start and end? Is it yearly, like 2010 annual pass and 2011 annual pass (in which case it wouldn't work for us), or is does your year start from the first day you use it? Thank you for your answers, I did a search and didn't find the answer!

Thanks again!

It starts on the day you activate it and on the same date the following year. So if you buy/activate it on November 11, 2010, it will expire on November 11, 2011.

Awesome! Thank you so much for answering! :)

Just to follow-up, in the example above, will the pass still be good for admission on November 11, 2011? (for someone who might take yearly trips 51 weeks apart).

Yes. Disney considers AP years to actually be 366 days.

Another FYI. If you want to delay activation of the pass, you need to buy it in voucher form from the web site. Buying at a customer service booth automatically activates it on that day.

We always plan our 2 weeks in wdw/dvc late the first year (Halloween last year) and earlier the next (Sept/oct this year) good savings, good sense!

How long can we delay the annual pass activation? Can I purchase, let say, Nov. 2011 and not activate it till Dec. 2012?

The only place you actually get the AP is at WDW. If you buy in advance over the phone (or on the website) you get a receipt for the purchase (the voucher mentioned above) but not the actual AP and when you get to WDW you pick up your actual APs. The AP's issuance date is the day you pick it up at WDW. So if you buy over the phone (or on website) you won't be purchasing an AP that begins on the day you call, only one that begins when you actually pick it up at WDW.

Though it is called a voucher, giving the impression that it is required to pick up the APs, the reality is that you don't need anything more than your valid ID and DVC Member Card to pick up the APs when you get there because your purchase information will be in their computer but best to bring the receipt in the event something goes wrong.

Thanks, I did not know that bit about the 366 (or 367 days) for an AP. Can I ask another question? If we buy, for example, 5 day park hoppers before we leave home, then we can use them on our trip in January. Can we convert them to (member discounted) APs while we are on property? If so, can we wait until our last day on the hoppers so the AP would be good for 366 days from our last day there? Or would it count back to the first day of use? Please tell me if this could really happen or if I'm only dreaming! :goodvibes And is there a 'down' side to doing it this way, if it's possible?

You can convert them within 14 days of first use, but the AP expiration would be the anniversary date of the day of first use of the hopper ticket.

This is exactly what we have been doing for our summer trips. In 2011, we went from August 10th to the 15th. For 2012, we are going August 5th to the 10th.

Its a nice way to get two trips out of one pass which allows us to buy every other year!

Hi all. My husband and I will be giving each other annual passes for Christmas this year. I wanted to have something (even a voucher) to wrap for him. So, if I go online today to the WDW site and purchase an annual pass, it will not be activated until we arrive on 2/9? Also, can we exchange that voucher at the check-in desk at the Contemporary, or does it need to be done at guest services in one of the parks? Thanks so much for all your help!

FYI, per CF, it now appears Disney no longer upgrades tickets that have been used up, so you must upgrade before the last day of use. But yes the AP should equal first day of use. (Watch the date, when I upgraded 2 weeks ago, it gave me a June expiration. The CM corrected it, though)

367 if it goes over a Leap Day.
I was under the impression that it was 366 either way. From MouseSavers' description:

An Annual Pass is good for 366 days. If you buy one on April 8, 2006, it will be valid through April 8, 2007! (Yes, you get an extra day, except in Leap Years.)

I'll know soon enough, though, as I plan to buy one just before Leap Day this upcoming February.

If you buy today on-line, they will send an email receipt. When you get to WDW 2/9, you will pick up APs and that will be first day of the AP. Bring the email with you in case something goes wrong but likely you will not even need it to pick up APs as your info will be in their computers; you will need IDs and DVC Member Card.

As to picking it up at resort. I have heard some mixed reports with some saying you can now pick them up at the resorts and some saying they were told they could not and got them at Guest Services outside of the first park they went to. Perhaps someone can confirm that getting them at resorts is now certain.

I was just hoping somebody could clarify for me. I made reservations for August this morning, and the agent at MS suggested that I buy my annual passes today, over the phone, to lock in the current price. I did so, and she explained that I can pick up my passes upon check in at AKL. She also said that they will not be activated until my check in date, 8/7. Is that indeed correct? I've been confused lately with the talk of vouchers vs PAP's that activate on the date of purchase.

TIA!
