Annual Pass Purchase

Is there a feeling here that AP's will be a thing of the past? What's your best speculation?

Yup. If it had been activated then canceled, you would have qualified for a recovery offer
I am hoping for my call back soon........activated my AP on March 1st 2020...............and the rest is history.
I got a refund in the fall of 2020 for the 50 weeks of unused time on my AP.

Nope, not at all.

Disney makes a LOT of money from APs. I think they just want to wait for the end of capacity limitations before selling new ones.

If they wanted to end APs altogether, they would not be allowing renewals.

Just a whacky idea that just occurred to me. What if there was an AP tied to resort stay? :duck: That way, guests staying on-site actually get a perk of being able to buy an AP and Disney doesn't whine about profits because we're staying on-site to get the AP. Just a compromise option that might help ease us back into the land of AP purchases. I'm just so desperate for an AP option...

I have no idea whether it has any bearing on Disney's decision to not sell annual passes right now, but there has been a case filed in Orange County Florida against Disney for a class action lawsuit regarding annual passes. Basically saying Disney has breached their contract with annual passholders in various ways under the new reservation system.

And to emphasize that annual passholders are way down the priority list for Disney, during an earnings call with Disney shareholders in August 2020, Disney CEO Bob Chapek admitted that non-passholders who “travel and stay for five to seven days” are “more valuable to the business than someone who comes in on an annual pass”. So as long as non-passholders are filling up most of their currently available capacity they have no incentive to sell passes really.

I know it's wishful thinking, and yes DVC perks can go away at anytime, but it in the meantime it would seem nice/fair if a multi-day ticket discount was offered for DVC members, since we cannot purchase a Gold Pass. There is no admission discount for being a DVC member otherwise (unless you are were in the group that was able to renew).

I'm going in December, and will hope that something is available again by then, or if I purchase tickets in the meantime, I can exchange the value toward a new pass.

I don’t see them going away entirely but I could see them looking at how the new system they eventually will be implemented in California is received and eventually shift to this

I don't think AP's will be available for sale until capacity limits are removed

I called and they let me renew my annual pass after it expired. Mine expired in December and they let me renew in March. I have been one for at least five years and my young daughter still had an activated AP so that might have been why they let me. Worth a call in my opinion.
