Annual Pass "paper or plastic"

The way they handle this with the Disneyland AP is it has no magnetic strip. There is a barcode on the card that they just scan. I am hard on cards because I keep my wallet in my back pocket. I have had a DLR AP for 6 years and never had a problem with it.
It consistently amazes me that Disneyland and Walt Disney World Management people don't communicate on what works best. They should have consistent processes at both resorts. I think their ego gets in the way of good customer service sometimes. There are things that Disneyland does better than WDW and Visa-Versa. It would be better for the guests if they got on the same page on some of these things!

I was amazed at DL that your room key isn't used for charging to the room and can't be used as your ticket. There are very few places that you can even charge to your room at DL and it is way complicated. Much easier for that at WDW.

I was at DL a year ago and saw the HUGE long line the APers had to stand in to get their picture taken for their passes. Personally, I'll take the magnetic strips and paper tickets. Plus, when I do need to replace it (we arrived at MGM one day without our APs--oops) it's so easy to stop by Guest Services, show your driver's license and have a new one in hand instantly. With the larger number of guests that WDW hosts each year I assume the technology used there is the more advanced of the two parks. It has certainly cut down on people re-selling park hoppers! :sunny:

I agree, this is an area where WDW has the better process.

You are right about WDW having more overall guests, however, Because it is in the middle of a metro area with 11 million people, Disneyland as FAR MORE annual pass holders (around 600,000 according to Disney) This means that they process more passes each day. This could be a big part of why there are long lines to renew.

This is what I don't understand, Disneyland sells over 600,000 annual passes a year (Far more than WDW due to the huge local population) They are nice plastic cards with a digital image of the passholder on the back. It seems to be cost effective for Disneyland.

Someone who owns a DL AP told me that they are charged $20.00 to have them replaced!

If that is the way it is I would be happy with paper towels instead of $20 to replace

Take a photocopy of the back of your pass and keep it in a safe spot!
This is not necessary for APs. Just show a photo ID and they will print you a new one.

Back when WDW APs were "photo IDs"... they cost $15 to replace.

You know what I find SOOOOO FUNNY!!!!
Not only are they paper, but if you purchase them early they send you a ticket to bring with you to "cash in" for your actual annual pass.
THIS ticket is PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!!
The one you DONT keep!
Drives me nuts

Let me say though......if you get your use out of them, you wont care what they are made of!
