Annual pass or AAA for room discounts at Universal resorts?

Please advise if anyone can clarify what the best/most economical discount plan is for on-site hotels at Universal, ie. Annual passes vs. AAA.
What are the amounts of discounts for each, during the summer months?
Thanks for your input!

For late August '05, I had AAA rates of $159 per night but changed to a Preferred Annual Pass (purchased 1 pass at $179) and got a better rate of $129 for three nights and one night free!

More than paid for the annual pass.

Bought 3 more Power Passes (with blackout dates) @ $99 ea. with the Florida Lottery ticket offer for the rest of the family.

We will schedule our 2006 trip just before our annual passes expire and get two visits out of them.

Check your dates before you buy passes. You don't need an annual pass to book - only when you check-in.

Just a tip if you decide to go with AAA. When I called to book our room through Loews (sp?) Reservations they told me there were no AAA discounts available, but when I checked the AAA website, discounted rooms were available. It might have been an unusual thing, but it never hurts to check before you go with another discount.

I find that that APH rate is the better rate, when available. I only use the AAA rate when there's a room upgrade available with my Lowe's first card. When that happens, AAA is usually better (i.e., I'm paying for a garden view, but getting a delxue room). I always research and compare first!

APH is about the best rate going...except for Entertainment Card rates & they do not offer them anymore :sad2:

I think it depends when you go. APH rate for RPR weekend in Oct is $202 and $179 with AAA.

This is the first time ever that AAA is cheaper than APH for me, too. PBH on Columbus Day weekend, AAA is 227.20, APH is 229.00. I'm not too optimistic that it will come down any further since both RPR and HRH are coming up as sold out that weekend.

and i have one of those sold out rooms at hrh for that weekend / columbus day...

i booked in march 6 and keep checking to see if anymore deals are being released . the aaa rate for hrh for the second weekend is $224.10/night.
pbh is only $3 more a night for the same time period.

loews is blacked out for my first two nights there but for the third night it isn't. i get the loews welcome gift on my third night there.

if i could have booked the first weekend in oct. i would have. but i didn't have the plane booked in march so i took a gamble it would work out for the next. the first weekend has cheaper rates at hrh
