Annual Pass Expiration Date

When you upgrade a pass to an AP, is the expiration date the first day you use the pass or the day you upgraded?

I am planning a trip Aug 26-Sep 2z we have another trip in December. We always go the last week in August. I am wondering if I should wait until the final day of the August trip to upgrade my pass, if it would then still be good for the trip next year. Otherwise, I would do it the first day to get free Photopass. If it is the day of upgrade, I guess I should've always been getting APs (I have DVC discount) for my trips that are the same week every year, right? It never occurred to me that I could upgrade on the last day of the vacation.

It is calculated from the first day you use it.

Sadly, the start date of the AP will be the first day you used the ticket (before the upgrade). The good news is, you get 1 year plus a day - you get the start date as the last date, not the day before. Go ahead and get your upgrade to use photopass!

You would still get all Photopass photos taken from day-one, even if you did not do the upgrade until later in your trip.

What happens to the animated shots and ride videos I take before I upgrade? Will those be available as well if I don't have a AP on the date they were taken?

And I have a somewhat related question. I have a MVMCP party ticket for November 28th plus two hotel stays, one on December 5th (RO) and one on the 8th (package). Is it true that I can only activate my tickets 3 days before the package starts? I was thinking of activating my tickets on the 28th and upgrading it to an AP right away so I can use the merchandise discount for the exclusive party stuff.

Tickets can be activated up to 10 days before the start of a package.

Photos taken and linked to an mde account are available for 365 days with an AP so all pictures on the mde account from previous trips within the 365 days before you activated the AP will show.
